Purpose and Scope:       

This position is a general assistant worker to journeyman maintenance professionals. The candidate will be capable of performing a variety of routine maintenance tasks, such as replacement of faucet washers, filters, and toilet rings. Candidate will need a basic working knowledge of hand and power tools and proper usage, to include appropriate PPE. Tasks will include environmental clean-up of non-hazardous material under supervision and require problem identification and resolution. Candidate will be required to work without supervision and independently problem-solve a variety of issues.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors.
  • Using plaster or compound to complete minor wall or ceiling repair, including paint, drywall, and paneling replacement and repair.
  • Repair or replace sinks, water coolers, and toilets, tiles, concrete flooring, steps, and sidewalks.
  • Performing general maintenance and upkeep on equipment and machinery.
  • Cleaning, replacement, and repair of air ducts and similar routine HVAC maintenance and assisting HVAC professionals in a variety of tasks.
  • Disposable of waste materials/recyclables through the use of machine hoppers, roll-offs, and other required equipment.
  • Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment for all relevant tasks.
  • Performs all housekeeping and maintenance duties as needed to ensure workspace upkeep.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned, requested, or related, unless otherwise excluded by this description or the established collective bargaining agreement.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Twelve months job related experience and/or training is required.
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
  • Must be physically capable of, lifting 45 pounds, standing on stepladders, and reaching overhead.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
  • Position may require travel.
  • Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to speak, read and understand English.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Must be available for any shift, must be willing to work weekends and other hours as needed.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Shop environment in which heavy equipment is operated, potentially loud environments, and some pieces of equipment have exposed moving components, frequent lifting up to 45 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling and carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues. Must be able to acknowledge and respond to emergency lights and sirens and be capable of wearing a protective mask.

Compensation & Benefits

HIRING HOURLY Rate of Pay:  $24.44 (Hourly rate set by CBA)

This position includes a competitive benefits package, to include:

  • Employees are provided with $7.50 per hour paid, up to 80 hours per pay period for the purchase of the following benefits:  medical, dental, AD&D insurance, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, employee assistance program, and short-term disability.

  • Paid vacation. Annual allotment in the form of a biweekly accrual as follows:  144 hours for 0-5 years of service, 194 hours for 5-10 years of service, 224 hours for 10-15 years of service, and 264 for more than 15 years of service.

  • 401k

  • 11 Paid holidays annually (prorated dependent on hire date)
