PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The role of the JDFPG General Practitioner is to work as part of the primary health care team, delivering comprehensive health care services to the employees and eligible dependents of the JDFPG community. 

The GP works collaboratively with the Facility Medical Officer, nursing staff, and allied health professionals, working collaboratively in a well-structured clinical setting.to provide high-quality, patient-centred care. This position emphasizes preventive care, chronic disease management, and acute care services.

CLINICAL SCOPE

The successful practitioner will be expected to manage a wide variety of clinical presentations typical of a true generalist role. This includes supporting patients with common mental health conditions including anxiety and depression as well as providing care across areas of women's health, acute medical care, injury management and preventative care.

Chronic disease management forms a key component of the role, particularly in relation to conditions such as diabetes, vascular disease, and hypertension. The practitioner must also be confident in paediatric care, including managing common childhood presentations such as otitis media and asthma, conducting well-child checks and identifying potential developmental delays.

In addition, the role involves the assessment and initial management of musculoskeletal conditions, including determining when cases can be managed conservatively and when referral for imaging or physiotherapy is appropriate. The practitioner should also be competent in performing minor procedures, particularly skin biopsies and excisions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To ensure the provision of quality care through efficient and effective, safe and timely services exercising a significant level of initiative in the direct coordination, implementation and evaluation of care with appropriate outcomes.
  • Conduct comprehensive physical exams and obtain detailed medical histories. Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions, including prescribing medications and therapies as appropriate.  Perform and interpret diagnostic tests, such as lab work and imaging studies.
  • Educate patients on managing chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma.  Offer guidance on lifestyle modifications, including nutrition, exercise, and stress management.  Support patients in understanding their treatment plans and medication regimens.
  • Work closely with physicians and other health care professionals to ensure continuity of care. Participate in care discussions and team meetings. Refer patients to specialists and other health care providers as necessary. 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the clinics Electronic Health Record system.  Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and AHPRA standards.
  • Maintain continuing professional development as per AHPRA requirements
  • To ensure the health and safety of staff and visitors to JDFPG Medical clinics.
  • Ensure compliance with all site environmental health and safety requirements.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

Minimum Essential

  • Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
  • Minimum 3+ years’ GP experience
  • Fellowship (FRACGP/FACRRM) or equivalent
  • Strong clinical decision-making skills in low-resource settings
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Experience working in rural, remote, or isolated environments
  • Ability to work independently with limited access to specialist services
  • Resilience and adaptability in a unique operational setting
  • Awareness of environmental and social factors impacting patient health

This role is based in a remote setting with:

  • Limited access to specialist services
  • One public hospital with constrained resources
  • Limited radiology availability

The successful applicant must be comfortable managing clinical risk in a generally well-being population and understand that non-urgent care may involve delays due to geographic isolation.

Important Prescribing Limitations

  • No opioid prescribing
  • No stimulant prescribing
  • No testosterone prescribing

COMPETENCIES

Technical competencies

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Australian medical guidelines and standards
  • Experience in the use of electronic medical records systems and record keeping in accordance with medical confidentiality requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and data entry Behavioural competencies
  • High-level of communication; written and verbal, teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with a motivated group Health Professionals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL DEMANDS, AND MENTAL DEMANDS

  • E.g. Ability to lift to 10kg independently
  • Ability to carry emergency medical packs
  • Unload and load medical equipment into vehicle
  • Ability to transfer immobilised patients utilizing medical devices, e.g., Stretcher/ Wheelchair
  • Perform CPR

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT

It is a condition of employment at JDFPG that employees obtain and retain the appropriate level of security clearance and medical clearance applicable to each role. The employee will require a Level NV1 Department of Defence Security Clearance (Australian). 

STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIREMENTS

All personnel assigned to work at JDFPG shall be:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Able to fluently read, write and speak English

EHS REQUIREMENT

All Amentum personnel are responsible for understanding and complying with all site environmental, health and safety requirements. While Amentum is responsible for providing a safe workplace and is responsible for ensuring compliance with requirements of the JDFPG Handbook, each person is responsible for:

  • Completing work tasks in a safe manner
  • Reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to their supervisor and/or PMO/EHS Manager
  • Continuous adherence to the environmental, health and safety procedures outlined in the JDFPG Handbook during the performance of their work
  • Red-Carding a Job - Employee right and responsibility to “STOP WORK” if a job is unsafe or possess a danger to the environment
