The Ground Support Equipment Mechanic diagnoses malfunctions and repairs Ground Support Equipment (GSE) 

  • Advises and trains lower grade workers on diagnosis and repair of less complex repair/maintenance problems.
  • Inspects and approves completed maintenance actions.
  • Solves repair problems by studying drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical publications.
  • Uses automated maintenance data systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, and document maintenance records.
  • Document maintenance actions, and analyzes, diagnosis, and repairs GSE using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers and hand tools.
  • Maintains external fuel and ground systems.
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE.
  • Inspects, tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation.
  • Services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air.
  • Diagnoses mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses, test equipment, and technical publications.
  • Disassemble and assemble malfunctioning GSE accessories and components.
  • Removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls GSE components and accessories.
  • Stencils and marks GSE in accordance with technical publications.
  • Stores, handles, labels, uses, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards, and regulations.
  • Prepares GSE for storage, mobility deployment, and operates, cleans, inspects and services GSE towing vehicles.
  • Maintains vehicle records and updates paper and electronic equipment records.
  • Provides dispatch service for GSE, including positioning equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations.
  • Practices good housekeeping, tool control, foreign object damage prevention and safety at all times.
  • When qualified and assigned for crane operator duties, shall have three years of crane operation related experience and shall comply with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) 1926 Safety and Health Regulations for Construction, Subpart: CC Cranes & Derricks in Construction 1926.
  • 1427 Operator qualification and certification
  • When driving shall have a valid and current state motor vehicle operator’s license for the size and class of vehicle to be driven.
  • Shall have a safe driving record to include no licenses revoked or suspended.
  • Shall have no history of being convicted of serious traffic violations such as driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
  • As required, capable of using Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) for job duties.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Specialized Training courses is desirable
  • Must be able to inspect, repair, and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
  • Minimum of Three (3) years of work experience as related to individual specialty code.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated.
  • Exposure to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, and taste or smell.
  • Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration.
  •  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.

HIRING HOURLY Rate of Pay: $43.78 - $45.31 (Hourly rate set by CBA)

This position includes a competitive benefits package.

Bi-weekly accrual of 4.92 hours (0 to less than 60 months)

Bi-weekly accrual of 6.45 hours (60 months but less than 120 months)

Bi-weekly accrual of 7.99 hours (120 months but less than 240 months)

Bi-weekly accrual of 8.77 hours (240 months or more)

11 paid Holidays (outlined in CBA)

Sick Leave – 56 hours per year (1.08 hours weekly / 2.16 hours bi-weekly accrual)
