Essential Responsibilities:

  • Use mathematics, science, engineering principles, Lean Manufacturing/Toyota Production System (visual management (WIP, schedules, work tasks), work cell design (e.g., establish Bore Evac Production Cell), Kaizen, kanban, 5S, value streams maps, Ishikawa, SMED), Six Sigma, root cause analysis to communicate and support innovation, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities to streamline processes and increase throughput.
  • Develop/implement/maintain work standards and manufacturing process documentation (SOP, work instructions, training records, templates, flow charts, capacity and utilization studies, standard work, cycle time analysis, scheduling methods, performance metrics).
  • Identify, scope, execute projects to define and reduce manufacturing costs. Review production order closeout variances, determine root causes, recommend corrective actions. Design control systems to minimize and resolve production/quality issues and project costs.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, factory managers, engineers, and other associates.
  • Independently manage multiple tasks, solve technical problems, lead projects, and work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Exercise effective writing, presentation, verbal communication skills.
  • Develop, conduct, maintain time studies, capacity models, line balancing, ergonomic information (improve workplace ergonomics), DL staffing model.
  • Communicate regularly with management and other functional groups to ensure understanding of needs/problems related to industrial engineering projects.
  • Create equipment layouts for new and relocated installations.
  • Analyzes work force utilization, work center layout, material flow, process flow, and production requirements to determine most efficient use of personnel and equipment.
  • Initiate, participate, provide training (e.g., problem solving) to effectively complete improvement efforts.
  • Recommend capital equipment additions and develop appropriate justifications.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Physical Effort: The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing ladders. In addition, the work requires frequent lifting and carrying of equipment weighing up to 45 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather. Inside work areas can range from well lighted, heated, and climatically controlled to poorly illuminated work areas. This position has constant sitting/standing while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in engineering from a school of engineering accredited through the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  • One year of specialized experience reflecting the ability to do the work of an Industrial Engineer without more than normal supervision.
  • Must have a valid United States driver's license.
  • Must have experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) or rapid gate.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English.
  • Must have knowledge of the Geometric Dimensions and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience.
  • Must have the ability to meet physical demands associated with and/or pass and maintain any medical examination requirements related to perform daily routine maintenance tasks.
