We have an exciting opportunity for a International Space Station ECLSS Subsystem Manager to join the JETSII Contract.

The International Space Station ECLSS Subsystem Manager will: 

  • Assume full oversight responsibility (under the direction of the NASA ECLSS System Manager) for all engineering and operations decisions for ISS ECLSS fire detection and suppression and emergency response related topics.
  • Provide review and evaluation to SDR/PDR/CDR design cycle and Review Item Description (RIDs) documentation. Track Review Items Discrepancies and ensure their resolutions.
  • Verify certification of ECLSS emergency (toxic release, fire, rapid depressurization) response hardware for flight and/or reflight.
  • Assess and understand engineering drawings and sketches.
  • Provide recommendations for materials selection for flight hardware.
  • Be able to troubleshoot and investigate hardware failures and provide recommendations to get hardware back to working conditions.
  • Understand and utilize commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures for ECLSS emergency response hardware on ISS and/or Commercial Elements.
  • Support real time system operations, including periodic support in the ISS Mission Evaluation Room (MER).
  • Track ECLSS emergency response limited life hardware to monitor performance, provide resupply recommendations and support to risk discussions.
  • Handle communications between various hardware providers and sustaining organizations.
  • Take point in exchanging information with a wide range of stakeholders including the International Space Station (ISS) Program, JSC Engineering, Vehicle Office, Collins Aerospace, Boeing, Marshall Space Flight Center and Russian ECLSS counterparts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the ISS ECLS System Manager.  Duties may include interaction with other programs such as International Space Station and Commercial corporations (ex. – Axiom Commercial Segment, Commercial Destination Free Flyer), Gateway, Human Lander, etc.
  • Some travel required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requisition Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and normally possess 5- 10 years of related experience. License and certification may be required.
  • BS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school
  • Self-motivated, team player and adaptability to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to effectively interact with customers and management at all levels.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.
  • Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical/electrical systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products

Requisition Preferences:

  • ​Have an understanding/exposure to ISS/Commercial ECLSS functions and related hardware
  • A working knowledge of, and experience with, Space Vehicle flight operations and documentation
  • Experience with ISS visiting vehicles
  • Knowledge of hardware certification and flight processes
  • Be familiar with system/subsystem management roles
  • Be able to coordinate across multiple organizations
  • Be familiar with the functions of the ISS Program boards and technical forums and able to develop and clearly communicate information to those ISS Program boards and technical forums

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
