We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced IT Director to lead the delivery of IT services for our ‘International’ (non-USA) internal user base, including UK, EMEA and APAC. Role scope includes the internal IT transformation portfolio and BAU operations and covers all IT service disciplines, including Service Desk, Cybersecurity, EUC, Servers + Networks + Hosting, Automation + AI + Data Science, Architecture and PMO. Amentum’s International zone covers approximately 7,500 users, 65+ sites across 10+ countries; the business has annual revenues of £2bn and has well-established plans to double revenue and headcount by 2030. The IT Director will be accountable for an annual IT budget of ~£50m GBP. Amentum is growing business, operating across a number of markets, including Energy (inc. nuclear), Environment, Defence, Space, Cyber Intelligence. A particular focus for this role is Energy & Environment.
This role will report to the Global CIO (solid line) and the Amentum Energy & Environment (E&E) Senior Vice President (SVP). The IT Director will cooperate and collaborate very closely with the global CIO Office (USA-based), including leaders and engineers. As a senior role, the IT Director will also provide general business leadership presence across the International zone and as such, is expected to travel occasionally, typically two days per week. Key responsibilities are;
Provide strategic and operational leadership for all IT services across Amentum International (UK, EMEA and APAC), ensuring technology capabilities enable business strategy, contract delivery and future growth.
Define, own and execute the International IT strategy and roadmap, aligned to the global CIO strategy, enterprise architecture standards and Energy & Environment business priorities.
Be accountable for the end‑to‑end delivery of IT services, covering both business‑as‑usual operations and the IT transformation portfolio across all service towers, including Service Desk, Cyber Security, End User Computing, Infrastructure, Cloud, Networks, Automation, Data, Architecture and PMO.
Ensure secure, resilient and compliant IT services across all International geographies, meeting regulatory, contractual and accreditation requirements in highly regulated environments such as Energy, Nuclear, Defence and Government services.
Act as the senior IT escalation point for International business leadership, managing major incidents, service risks and complex operational challenges.
Lead, develop and inspire geographically dispersed, multi‑disciplinary IT leadership and delivery teams, fostering a high‑performance, inclusive and accountable culture.
Own the International IT financial model, with full accountability for the ~£50m annual IT budget, including cost optimisation, investment planning and benefits realisation.
Build trusted relationships with senior International stakeholders, acting as a strategic partner who translates business objectives into pragmatic, value‑driven technology solutions.
Collaborate closely with the Global CIO and global CIO Office to ensure alignment with global platforms, standards, cyber security posture and shared services.
Lead the planning and delivery of large‑scale IT transformation initiatives, including cloud adoption, automation, AI, data platforms and legacy modernisation.
Establish and govern IT service management and performance frameworks, including KPIs, SLAs, demand management and service quality metrics, driving continuous improvement and user experience.
Own vendor, supplier and partner relationships across International IT, including contract negotiation, commercial management and third‑party performance governance.
Champion cyber security, data protection and risk management as core executive responsibilities, working with global teams to improve organisational resilience.
Support business growth, bids and contract mobilisation by ensuring IT services are scalable, compliant, secure and bid‑ready, contributing to business cases where required.
Lead effective change management to ensure technology‑driven change is well communicated, adopted and embedded across diverse cultures and geographies.
Here's What You'll Need
Developed breadth of technical skills, covering DevSecOps and including Microsoft Azure and on-prem environments.
Demonstrable experience in defining and owning IT strategy, roadmaps, commercials, budgets and service quality KPIs.
A self-starter: highly proactive, dynamic and passionate.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Business-case experience, to justify further investment and benefit cases.
Resilient in the face of challenge and resistance to change.
Degree-educated or significant demonstrable experience.
Experienced working in large scale enterprises (7,500 to 50,000 employees).
Experienced working in highly regulated environments, including national security (capable of obtaining high levels of security clearance), data security and export controls.
Demonstrable evidence of working alongside operational and project & programme colleagues.
Demonstrable evidence of delivering significant productivity gains for the internal user base, including automation, data science and AI (e.g. RPA, LLMs, Agents).
Experience working with 3rd party partners.
