The Homeland Group is looking for an Open Source Monitoring Specialist (Farsi) to support the Department of State's Open Source Intelligence Program focused on detecting threats to specific people, locations, and events. The ability of the program to effectively identify threats relies on being able to monitor online publicly available information in multiple languages, including Farsi. As a Farsi language-enabled Open Source Monitoring Specialist, you will use your Farsi language ability, Boolean logic, automated search tools, and other research skills to find potential threats in social media, news sites, forums, and other open source sources. The threats you find will be used by security and law enforcement personnel worldwide to increase the safety of specific people, locations, and events. Shift work will be required (6pm-6:15am, 4 shifts on/4 shifts off).

Open Source Collectors will:

  • Apply curiosity, methodology, and persistence to find and report on answers to intelligence questions in a fast tempo environment
  • Compose draft intelligence reports adhering to client’s style guide
  • Leverage language ability, cultural knowledge, and context in research activities when applicable
  • The Open Source Collector position supports 24/7 operations and will work a shift based schedule that can include weekend and holiday hours.  Candidates should have the ability to work rotating or fixed schedules as needed by the client.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education: Four (4) years' relevant experience with a High School Diploma/GED/Equivalent or Two (2) years with a bachelor’s degree
  • Relevant experience includes any position that requires advanced online research
  • Intelligence Community experience preferred.
  • Farsi language knowledge and proficiency, with ability to assist in translation efforts with correct cultural and ethnic context
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and succinctly, both verbally and in writing, in English and Farsi
  • Strong open source information collection experience for both real-time event-focused and long-term issue focused intelligence requirements
  • Knowledge of internet-based research, including Boolean logic
  • Knowledge of machine language translation methods
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new software
  • Ability to establish liaison and interact effectively with individuals at all levels
  • Active Secret US Government Clearance required. Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of popular and fringe social media platforms
  • Completed formal Open Source Intelligence or advanced internet research training course.
  • Iranian Farsi and knowledge a plus but not required
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and maintain focus under pressure
  • Basic familiarity with collecting publicly available information including commercial databases, social media platforms, third party data aggregation sites, online web-based OSINT tools, cached and archived online content, search engines, metadata, etc.

Work Environment:

  •  This position is performed in a traditional office environment.

Compensation:

The annual starting salary for this position is between $90,000-$100,000 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
