The successful candidate will join the Facility Operations team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA’s Langley Research Center (LaRC). This position reports directly to the Facility Operations Manager.

All work will be performed with a high standard of quality and professionalism.  All safety policies and procedures must be followed.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will join a team to safely, effectively, and efficiently operate and maintain mechanical systems in NASA LaRC wind tunnels, liquid nitrogen generation plant, and other facilities.

  • Follow established safety policies and procedures and perform work in accordance with policies and procedures while maintaining a high standard of quality and workmanship in performance of all duties.
  • Working knowledge of safety practices common to industry including FOD control and LOTO is beneficial.
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of rotating machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic system, pumps, valves, cooling water systems, and production, transfer, and storage of cryogenic liquids is preferred.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on, inspection of, and operate equipment per documented procedures.
  • Must be able to read relevant technical drawings and specifications.
  • Assembles wind tunnel models for testing; installs, routes, and calibrates instrumentation.
  • Operates other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, man-lifts, and cranes.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and steps, enter and work in confined spaces, lift up to a minimum of 35 lbs
  • Willing to work all shifts and overtime.
  • May be required to support alternate facilities as needed.

Qualifications:

Two (2) years of college with courses in engineering, mathematics or science, and four (4) years relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of relevant education/experience for a total of six (6) years.

Essential Functions:

Work Environment

Office Environment (20%). Test/Industrial Environment - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, high energy sources, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities (75%).  Travel between facilities and during test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment and chemical operations (5%).

Physical Requirements

Must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety (50%).  Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like (20%).  Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs (30%).

  • Employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.

       

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.

       

Compensation Details:

$22.59 - $33.54/hour
