Works under the direction of a Supervisory Legal Assistant to review files and documents for the Financial Litigation Program (FLP).

  • Establishes and maintains an effective system of compiling, indexing, and organizing this information and its sources. 
  • Prepare and mail financial demand letters, subpoena documents, and garnishment documents. 
  • Range of legal tasks include, but are not limited to copying, mailing, closing files, maintaining pleadings and maintaining a calendar system for assigned attorneys which accurately keeps track of due dates for pleading, hearings, and court appearances and other document and meeting deadlines.  
  • Maintain electronic case files which are organized, current, accessible, and retrievable and mains integrity of data inputted into the case management system. 
  • Manage 2410 Surplus Fund Report of Sales and notify the represented agency.
  • File Federal Tax Liens with County on debtors property.
  • Issue Service of Garnishment to the Garnishee, Debtor, and 3rd Parties.
  • File Victim Restitution documents.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Requires paralegal certificate, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.  One year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may be substituted for the paralegal certificate.
  • Additionally, at least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required; trial experience very helpful
  • Automated litigation support experience valued. Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research. 
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.  
  • Role also requires basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.    
  • Resume requirements: Must clearly state degree and certifications received;
  • All related work history with employer name, dates of employment, and description of role;
  • At least 3 Professional References;
  • All software/database proficiencies.

Hiring hourly rate of pay: $19.81 (Hourly rate set by SCA)  

*This position is regulated by the Department of Labor (DOL) as a Service Contract Act (SCA) contract. The DOL regulates the minimum hourly rate of pay, holiday and vacation leave benefits, and Health and Welfare (H&W) money.  

*Employees will earn H&W dollars per eligible hour (including vacation and holiday up to 40 hours/week). H&W monies are used to offset the employer’s cost of benefits the employee elects into and/or utilizes. Any remaining health and welfare monies after all applicable deductions would be cashed out to the employee on a 1 pay period lag.
