Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Power Plant Operator to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Power Plant Operator is responsible for the proper operation, monitoring, and maintenance of all power plant systems to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable generation of electricity. The operator will conduct inspections, checks, and adjustments to maintain power plant performance. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Operating and monitoring generator setsswitchboardsradiator fans, and other power plant systems.
  • Managing fuel supply systems, including starting air compressors, fuel oil centrifuges, and lube oil centrifuges.
  • Performing pre-operation checks, operational monitoring, and post-operation inspections of all power plant systems and equipment.
  • Identifying and troubleshooting operational problems and implementing corrective actions to ensure plant efficiency and safety.
  • Conducting routine equipment inspections to identify wear, leaks, corrosion, or other issues that may affect plant performance.
  • Monitoring power plant controls to regulate load balances and ensure consistent delivery of electrical power.
  • Documenting equipment performance, operational data, and maintenance logs as part of daily shift reporting.
  • Performing preventive maintenance and basic repairs, including cleaning, lubricating components, and replacing worn or damaged parts.
  • Complying with established safety standards and environmental regulations related to power plant operations.
  • Responding to emergencies and abnormal conditions to minimize downtime and risk to personnel or assets.
  • Communicating effectively with supervisors, technicians, and other operational staff to coordinate activities and address technical issues.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • At least three (3) years of experience operating and maintaining power generation equipment or performing similar roles within a power plant environment.
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance for generator sets, switchboards, air compressors, and fuel and lube oil systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and equipment diagrams.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols, industry standards, and environmental regulations governing power generation.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to identify equipment malfunctions and perform corrective action.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
    • Passport must be valid for at least one (1) year at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain physical standards for the duration of deployment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certifications or formal training in power plant operations or electrical generation systems.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Prior experience with diesel-powered generator systems or military power plant operations.
  • Familiarity with computerized control systems used in modern power plants.
  • Experience working in remote OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) or austere environments.
