Amentum is currently seeking qualified candidates to serve as Public Affairs Officer to support the Program Manager Self Propelled Howitzer Systems (SPHS), CPE Offensive Fires, at Detroit Arsenal. This position will be on-site daily, and travel (15-20%) may be required. is currently in office daily. The ideal candidate for this role would be a former senior public affairs officer familiar with supporting senior commanders and their organizations. This position is not yet funded, position contingent upon funding award. Other duties may be assigned to support client and contract deliverables.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Review, analyze, and synthesize Congressional, Department of War, Department of the Army, and other stakeholder communications relevant to SPHS and CPE Offensive Fires, providing informed recommendations to leadership.
Develop, implement, and assess comprehensive communication strategies, plans, themes, and key messages aligned with Army policy and SPHS mission objectives.
Formulate internal communication themes and messaging in support of CPE Offensive Fires to ensure consistent, mission-focused information flow within the organization.
Plan, coordinate, and execute media events tied to major and mid-level program activities (e.g., contract awards, fieldings, operational tests). Duties include drafting press releases; identifying and engaging media outlets; coordinating with program principals; securing venues; developing talking points and key messages; staffing messages with principals and ASA(ALT) communications leadership; and obtaining PEO-level concurrence.
Oversee the planning, development, and production of Public Affairs products, including news releases, feature stories, photographs, graphics, video products, and digital content.
Manage SPHS-related social media presence in accordance with Army and DoD guidance.
Respond to media inquiries by coordinating with program and PEO leadership to develop accurate, timely, and releasable responses; prepare Q&A and background material; and secure appropriate approvals prior to release.
Lead the development and execution of comprehensive communication plans that align with the organization's mission to deliver integrated fires capabilities to the warfighter.
Serve as the principal communication advisor to senior Army leadership, drafting high-level briefings, communications, and whitepapers.
Cultivate and manage relationships with a broad ecosystem of internal and external stakeholders, including military leadership, defense industry partners, and international allies.
Develop and implement comprehensive, multi-channel communication plans aligned with Army priorities and mission goals.
Serve as a strategic advisor to the CPE (a two-star General or civilian equivalent), drafting high-level communications, reporting, and briefings for senior Department of War (DoW) officials.
Translate highly technical acquisition data—including sensor technologies, interceptors, and battle management systems—into digestible, policy-compliant content for external and internal audiences.
Lead rapid communication planning and crisis response efforts related to program performance, national security issues, or reputational threats.
Coordinate external engagements, facilitate site visits, and manage the organization's digital footprint.
Review and edit artifacts supporting Congressional requests for information (RFIs), information papers, and hearing testimony.
Utilize analytics and sentiment analysis to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts, adjusting strategies based on real-time data.
Required Qualifications:
10-15 years of experience in strategic communications, public affairs, or media relations, preferably within the Dept of War or a federal acquisition environment.
Strategic messaging, congressional and interagency coordination, and information environment analysis and media relations expertise.
Proven ability to work independently and solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation Details:
$140-$230K
