The Rigging Engineer reports to the Maintenance Programs Manager and works in partnership with more senior Rigging Engineers in the planning, analysis, and execution of hoisting, rigging, and material handling operations. This role focuses on developing foundational engineering skills in lift planning, rigging design, and field execution while working under the guidance and technical authority of a more senior Rigging Engineer.   This position may also perform other general engineering duties/tasks in support of the DFLAW Facilities and mission.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

Engineering Support:

  • Assist in the development of engineered lift plans under senior engineer supervision

  • Perform basic load calculations, weight takeoffs, and center-of-gravity estimates

  • Support rigging selection and configuration reviews (slings, shackles, lifting beams, etc.)

  • Review crane load charts and assist in crane configuration evaluations

  • Prepare engineering calculations, sketches, and documentation

Field & Execution Support:

  • Participate in field walkdowns, lift planning meetings, and pre-job briefings

  • Observe and support execution of routine and engineered lifts

  • Assist with verification of rigging equipment, lift setup, and load paths

  • Support coordination between engineering, operations, construction, and safety teams

Safety & Compliance:

  • Support compliance with applicable hoisting and rigging standards and site procedures

  • Assist in preparation of lift hazard analyses (JHAs / AHAs)

  • Participate in safety observations and post-lift reviews

  • Learn and apply critical lift and high-consequence lift requirements

Documentation & Program Support:

  • Maintain lift plan files, calculations, and engineering records

  • Support updates to hoisting and rigging procedures, standards, and templates

  • Assist with data collection for lessons learned and continuous improvement

Career Development:

  • This role is intended as a developmental position, providing a structured pathway to progress into a Senior Rigging Engineer role through mentorship, field exposure, and increasing technical responsibility.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, or other technical discipline, and 0 to 2 years of experience in an industrial environment.

OR

Technical/Associate’s degree and minimum of 4 years of experience in an industrial environment.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and minimum of 6 years in an industrial environment.

Experience: Department of Energy, NRC, or Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience highly desired, or other highly regulated industry desirable.

Desired Skills:

  • Basic understanding of statics, strength of materials, and engineering fundamentals

  • Experience using engineering calculation tools or CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Autodesk Inventor)

  • 1 year of hoisting and rigging experience

  • Familiarity with crane operations or industrial lifting concepts

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual

Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Amentum visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)

Compensation Details:

$68,644.55 - $101,584.72
