Description:

Applicants will work in a dynamic team environment and will be responsible for working with the NASA customers, users, and commercial and international partners in the design, maintenance, and operations of systems and hardware in the COSMOS facilities.

Applicant will work closely with Platform/OS Engineers, Software Engineers, System Engineers, Technical Integration, Maintenance and Operations, and Project Managers to assist in facilitating changes and maintenance and operations across all parts of these complex systems.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written are required for customer interactions.  Strong initiative, teamwork and problem-solving skills are also required. Applicant must be a self-starter and comfortable reaching out to stakeholders, peers, and customers.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Work with the customer, users, and engineers to effectively incorporate safety requirements in designs and operations.
  • Perform high-level requirement assessments and facilitate the detailed assessments performed by the technical organizations for safety impacts.
  • Develop and maintain schedules for safety reviews and test readiness reviews.
  • Create and/or update all safety documentation.
  • Provide safety support to the implementation organizations.
  • Communicate inward to the organization and outward to customer contacts.
  • Work effectively in a team setting to collaborate ideas.
  • Play a vital role in promoting Amentum safety culture across the COSMOS contract, including subcontractors, to create a unified work environment that minimizes the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Collaborate with management and customers to develop HSSE standards, regulations, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards and reduce the frequency, severity and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses.
  • Provide necessary assistance or advice to program/contract management on matters pertaining to health, safety, security, and environment.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and participate in Test Readiness Reviews (TRR) and Safety Reviews (SR) for approval of training events and new hardware.
  • Perform investigation and trend analysis on risks and incidents, finding root causes and applying proper prevention methods.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure safety standards are being met and identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead the COSMOS SAFE Committees with the IMOC team to enhance employee attendance and participation through collaboration and joint efforts.
  • Coordinate, compile, and submit of safety metrics and reports.
  • Generate and submit Mishap/Close Call reports.
  • Perform safety related training.
  • Perform Job Hazard Analysis.


 

Qualifications:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Requires a BS in a Safety related field. Ex. (Environmental Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering, etc) At least 15 years of related experience.

Required Knowledge/Skills:

  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and professionally represent the program.
  • Highly motivated individual willing to learn and apply new concepts, tools, and software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, especially with other organizations.
  • Strong initiative
  • Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of NASA Requirements, especially the JSC NASA Safety Standards
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Experience with the OSHA VPP program.
  • Experienced in risk assessment, incident investigation and training
  • Extensive experience in public speaking
  • Site monitoring and auditing
  • Relationship and consensus building skills  
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Certified Safety Professional

Desired Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of Amentum HSSE policies and procedures as well as the Zero Harm safety process and Absolutes that include MyKey, Safety Energy, Incident Investigation, TSTI’s, the Keys and Courage to Care Conversations.
  • Leadership skills
  • Knowledge of the Mission Control Center, Training Systems, and Space Vehicle Mockup facilities at JSC.
  • Knowledge of NASA operations, including facility management and emergency preparedness.
  • Demonstrated experience across various areas of the systems engineering lifecycle including requirement analysis, design, and documentation.
  • Experience working within Integrated Product Teams (IPTs)

Compensation Details:

$100,000
