About the Opportunity

The Chemistry and Radioanalytical Solutions business at Amentum is recruiting for a Scientist to be based in Birchwood, Warrington to work with a team of highly qualified technicians, analysts, and senior scientists. For this role, the scientist will be working with a range of national and international clients. They will need to work collaboratively with other business areas to run analytical processes and solutions to the problems of tomorrow, including operational and decommissioning sites.

The role will be responsible for:

  • Analysis of samples for radiochemical and chemical parameters

  • Timely delivery of results to the customer

  • Working with senior members of staff to deliver the business goals and requirements

  • Experience in a range of analytical techniques and the ability to deploy onto existing or new challenges, including alpha spectroscopy, liquid scintillation counting, ICP-MS and ICP-OES, gamma spectroscopy

  • Equipment calibration and maintenance

  • Mentorship and support of less experienced members of staff

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • Graduate in chemistry, physics or other scientific discipline, or comparable knowledge and experience

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • The ability to collaborate with colleagues

  • Excellent practical laboratory skills

  • The ability to work flexibly on complex problems developing innovative solutions

  • Experience of developing radiochemical methods

  • Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)

Desirable Skills Include:

  • Experience of Quality Assurance, method validation, and accreditation against ISO 17025
