We are currently seeking a Senior Fire Protection Specialists to support our Oakridge, TN site.
As a Senior Fire Protection Specialist, you will perform moderately complex to complex fire protection design, assessment, analysis, field support, and program support activities. You may have primary technical expertise in fire detection, alarm and emergency signaling systems, fire suppression systems, or fire protection codes, standards, regulations, and compliance.
In this role, you will work within an integrated fire protection engineering environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop effective fire protection solutions, support regulatory compliance, and ensure the safety and reliability of critical facilities and operations. You will recognize interfaces with adjacent fire protection disciplines, identify when specialized expertise is required, and contribute to the successful execution of projects and programs.
Key Responsibilities

Perform assigned fire protection engineering and technical work related to:
- Fire detection, alarm, and emergency signaling systems
- Fire suppression and special hazards systems
- Fire water systems
- Life safety systems
- Fire protection code compliance
- Fire hazard analyses and assessments
- Fire safe shutdown evaluations
- Fire protection program support

Prepare complete first-pass technical deliverables, including:
- Design inputs and calculations
- System layouts and markups
- Specifications
- Technical evaluations
- Assessment documentation
- System narratives
- Cause-and-effect documentation
- Reports and review comments
- Work plans
- Field review records
- Technical correspondence
Apply applicable codes, standards, procedures, client requirements, quality requirements, licensing basis requirements, and safety expectations to assigned work activities.
Identify technical issues, assumptions, missing inputs, design conflicts, field constraints, quality concerns, implementation risks, and code or program compliance issues requiring clarification or escalation.
Support the development of project estimates, proposals, technical approaches, assumptions, clarifications, schedules, execution plans, and staffing inputs.
Coordinate and communicate with project teams, clients, engineering disciplines, and field personnel to support project execution and technical resolution.
Participate in field assessments, design reviews, inspections, and engineering evaluations to ensure compliance and technical quality.
Maintain knowledge of current fire protection technologies, codes, standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in fire protection engineering, fire safety design, fire hazard analysis, code compliance, or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated experience with fire protection systems, fire hazard assessments, life safety evaluations, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Strong understanding of applicable fire protection codes, standards, and engineering principles.
- Experience preparing technical documentation, engineering calculations, specifications, assessments, and reports.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering.
- Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) certification.
- Experience with performance-based fire protection design methodologies.
- Experience supporting government, defense, nuclear, energy, industrial, or critical infrastructure projects.
- Working knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, International Building Code (IBC), International Fire Code (IFC), and other applicable regulatory requirements.
Compensation Details:
$120,000-$150,000
