Purpose and Impact:

Amentum is currently seeking an Sr SME Engineer to join our dynamic team in the Arlington, VA area. This position requires an active DoD TS/SCI security clearance that has been adjudicated in the last 5 years or designated CE and the ability to obtain and maintain special accesses.

Work Schedule: Work is performed Monday – Friday

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serve as expert advisor on behalf of the customer in various communication planning working groups; review meetings and technical exchanges with vendors, subcontractors and mission partners; Work closely with vendors, subcontractors, and mission partners to resolve operational, technical and supply chain constraints.  

  • Advise the customer on the development of technical approaches to solving integration and interoperability related problems; to include formulation and execution of acquisition strategies.

  • Provide subject matter expertise (SME) on RF systems, performance and spectrum matter to include HF, VHF, UHF, SHF and EHF/ AEHF systems.

  • Provide technical expertise using knowledge of RF communications systems and their relationships with other telecommunications networks to review and advise on policies, directives, plans, and CONOPS.

  • Develop and present briefings and/or technical papers, to convey strategic vision of organizational policies, project status, objectives, and strategic milestones to senior officials; identify and quantify risks that would affect the quality, timeliness, and cost of project services and deliverables; recommend risk avoidance and mitigation plans.

  • Author researched quality document packages, formulate Courses of Action (COA’s), and draft recommendations for customer and senior decision makers that may have broad organizational or interagency impact.

  • Apply technical expertise to analyze, evaluate, and make recommendations to support integration of fixes, modifications, and enhancements into future and existing operational architecture. 

  • Work with the client to determine operational requirements for future system capabilities; model use cases, produce conceptual designs, develop technology integration strategies, design systems architectures; support the design, planning, and testing of new systems; ensure new systems are properly installed and brought on-line for operational use; coordinate installation team efforts to ensure schedules are met.

  • Generate activities to ensure knowledge creation/sharing and integration within and across the client mission space as appropriate.

  • May lead complex projects from requirements development through design and acquisition, culminating in stakeholder operational test and acceptance. 

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Active TS security clearance with SCI eligibility is required with adjudication within the last 5 years or designated CE and the ability to obtain and maintain special accesses.

  • BS degree in Engineering, Science, Telecommunications, Project Management, or related discipline with a minimum of (15) years of relevant satellite communications work experience gained in related industry, federal or military career field.

  • 15 years’ programmatic, policy or operational experience with DoD or Federal communications-electronic systems and voice, video, and data networks.

  • Significant familiarity with MILSATCOM systems and associated COMSEC devices with the ability to demonstrate proficiency in satellite communications principles, technical analysis, and problem solving.

  • Position requires advanced writing and speaking/presentation skills, exceptional organizational and prioritization skills.  

  • Position requires 20-30% travel per year.

Clearance Required: TS/SCI

Minimum Education: BS

Minimum Years of Experience: 15

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in Engineering, Science, Telecommunications, Project Management, or related discipline with (20+) years of relevant satellite communications work experience gained in related industry, federal or military career field.

  • 20+ years’ programmatic, policy or operational experience with DoD or Federal communications-electronic systems and voice, video, and data networks.

  • Experience gained in a DoD joint staff assignment.

  • Experience briefing executive level government officials.

  • Experience with government emergency communications systems.

  • SME in RF communication systems.  

  • System Acquisition or PPBE experience

       

Compensation Details:

$200,000 - $230,000

Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
