The team develops, deploys, and supports mission-focused cyber training solutions used across multiple locations. Team members work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment supporting the entire software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, software development, testing, deployment, infrastructure management, and operational support. Engineers work closely with instructors, developers, and system administrators to deliver reliable, realistic training capabilities. Unlike many software organizations where engineers are assigned to a single product or technology stack, members of the DevOps team contribute across a diverse portfolio of applications, services, and supporting infrastructure. This provides opportunities to build broad technical expertise while collaborating with teammates to deliver integrated solutions throughout the software development lifecycle.

Work Schedule: The courses being supported are active from 0700-1800 M-F. Contract core hours are 1000-1400. The DevOps team is flexible on arrival and departure time however there are occasions where one or more DevOps team members will be needed to support testing and maintenance before or after course hours. 

Essential Responsibilities:  

The Software Engineer will assist in the development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software applications while building experience across the software development lifecycle under the guidance of senior engineers. 

Responsibilities include: 

·        Assist in developing, troubleshooting, testing, and maintaining software applications supporting cyber training environments. 

·        Assist with implementing technical solutions based on established requirements. 

·        Develop software components, scripts, APIs, and user interface enhancements under guidance. 

·        Support the operation and maintenance of software development pipelines. 

·        Assist with application deployment and environment configuration. 

·        Contribute to databases, scripts, automation, and data processing solutions. 

·        Support the creation and maintenance of realistic cyber training environments and simulations. 

·        Perform software testing, debugging, validation, and analysis of results. 

·        Document software designs, configurations, processes, and operational procedures. 

·        Collaborate with instructors, developers, system administrators, and other technical teams to improve training capabilities. 

·        Recommend improvements to applications and workflows. 

·        Familiarity with one or more programming languages and object-oriented software development concepts.  

·        Familiarity with Linux or Windows operating systems.  

·        Exposure to Agile software development practices. 

·        Exposure to virtualization or container technologies is desirable. 

Security Clearance Required: TS/SCI with Poly 

Minimum Education & Years of Experience:

Bachelor's degree Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field

OR Associate’s degree (or 18 semester hours of military coursework/training in a computer-related field) and two (2) years of relevant experience;

OR High school diploma/GED and four (4) years of relevant experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate has experience contributing to software development, DevOps, or application support activities and a desire to expand their knowledge across the software development lifecycle. 

Team members may initially bring deeper experience in areas such as user interfaces, backend services, infrastructure, automation, or deployment. These areas represent technical strengths rather than separate roles. Engineers are expected to expand their skills across the full software development and deployment lifecycle. 

Role Expectations 

·        Develops familiarity with team applications, services, and deployment processes. 

·        Implements software changes with guidance from senior engineers. 

·        Builds foundational skills across development, testing, and deployment activities. 

·        Write maintainable code and supporting documentation, contributing across multiple projects. 

All team members are expected to develop familiarity with the team's full portfolio of applications, products, services, and supporting infrastructure. 

Preferred experience includes coursework, internships, personal projects, or professional experience with one or more of the following: 

·        Developing software using modern programming languages and frameworks such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Go, React, Angular, or similar technologies. 

·        Developing or supporting web applications, backend services, APIs, or databases using SQL or NoSQL technologies. 

·        Software development practices including source control, automated testing, and debugging. 

·        Linux or Windows operating systems, scripting, virtualization, container technologies, or cloud-native concepts. 

·        Automation, CI/CD, or DevOps tools through academic, personal, or professional experience.
