Role Description:
The Air Combat Systems Program Office (ACSPO) manages the acquisition and sustainment of Australia’s F‑35A Lightning II capability. It provides Asset, Project, Financial, Engineering, and Business Management Support for F‑35 sustainment and associated AIR06000 project phases.

The Technical Certification Engineer provides specialist engineering and airworthiness certification expertise in support of F‑35 capability development and sustainment. This role contributes to requirements, design, integration, and systems engineering activities, with a strong focus on certification, airworthiness compliance, and risk management for aircraft configuration changes.

Working within a highly regulated and technically complex environment, the position supports certification programs associated with ongoing capability upgrades (including Continuous Capability Development and Delivery – C2D2), ensuring compliance with applicable airworthiness standards.

The successful candidate will coordinate across internal and external stakeholders, provide engineering advice, and support the safe introduction and sustainment of capability.

This full-time position is based at Williamtown, near Newcastle.

Day to Day Tasks include:

  • Deliver aircraft certification activities, including configuration and software changes, working closely with Defence and industry stakeholders.
  • Plan and coordinate Type certification activities to support ongoing capability upgrades and maintain certification status.
  • Review and assess airworthiness documentation and compliance evidence, ensuring alignment with applicable standards.
  • Prepare and maintain key certification documents, including compliance checklists, configuration control documentation, and airworthiness issue papers.
  • Identify and manage engineering risks, issues, and system safety considerations, contributing to clear, risk-based recommendations.
  • Provide engineering advice across systems engineering activities, including requirements, design, integration, verification and validation, and test and evaluation.
  • Support stakeholder engagement, technical reviews, and ongoing management of certification basis, configuration control, and engineering governance.
  • Contribute to system safety, reliability, and maintainability activities, and provide guidance to team members where required.

Essential Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering (Bachelor or equivalent).
  • Experience in aircraft certification, including Type Certification, Configuration Management, and Compliance against standards such as MIL‑HDBK‑516C.
  • Strong understanding of the engineering life cycle, including requirements, design, integration, V&V, and system safety.
  • Ability to review technical documentation and provide clear, risk-based engineering advice to support airworthiness decisions.
  • Experience preparing and managing certification documents, including compliance documentation, risk assessments, and airworthiness issue papers.
  • Proven ability to manage engineering risks and work effectively with stakeholders across Defence, industry, and regulatory environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to produce high-quality technical documentation.

Location: RAAF Base Williamtown / Newcastle
Weekly Hours: 40 Hours (Monday-Friday) Onsite
