Amentum is seeking a Test Engineer to join our engineering team in Dahlgren, VA. This position supports the SLCM-N Program and provides the opportunity to work with new systems, leading-edge weapon system capabilities, technologies, software, hardware, and development tools. The role will also support the Government in the development of new concepts, technologies, and Fleet capabilities.


Test Engineer Essential Responsibilities:


  • Perform multiple roles within an Agile, cross-functional Scrum team, with a primary focus on testing.
  • Support test-driven development (TDD) activities.
  • Acquire in-depth domain knowledge and understanding.
  • Contribute to automated testing at various levels, including exploratory, system, integration, unit, end-to-end, contract, security, and performance testing.
  • Execute and analyze test cases.
  • Design effective test cases and test data.
  • Test distributed systems that include databases, application servers, and web front ends.
  • Perform unit testing using JUnit/Jest and code coverage tools such as JaCoCo.
  • Utilize UI testing tools such as Graphene/Selenium.
  • Utilize load-testing tools such as JMeter.
  • Utilize dynamic security testing tools such as Burp Suite and JavaScript.
  • Apply Agile software development methodologies and DevSecOps technologies.
  • Perform software engineering activities, including analysis, requirements, design, code, and testing.
  • Utilize collaborative tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Apply knowledge of DevSecOps technologies, including Docker containerized microservices, Red Hat OpenShift, and Jenkins CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understand and solve technical problems.
  • Work effectively as a member of a dynamic, self-organizing team.
  • Work directly with program stakeholders, including sponsors, end users, and contractors.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline; or five years of demonstrated and established knowledge and subject-matter testing expertise in lieu of the degree.
  • Five years of experience with nuclear operations, nuclear command and control principles, strategic weapons, nuclear planning, and national-level command and control programs.
  • Five years of software engineering experience in a real-time software-intensive Weapon System, Command System, or Intelligence System, including software requirements definition activities.
  • Three years of specialized experience in:
    • Software engineering requirements analysis.
    • Design tradeoff studies.
    • Structured requirements analysis methodologies for real-time software-intensive weapon systems.
    • Specification development on weapon systems using tools such as Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS).
    • Software requirements definition, engineering analysis, or software specification development.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Secret security clearance. Note: U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Test experience with NAVSEA Weapons Systems.
  • Top Secret clearance.
