About IA&R

Independent Assurance and Regulation (IA&R) aim to provide world leading consultancy services across highly regulated industries.

Organised to be independent and free from conflict of interest, IA&R provides a range of trusted, evidence-based, support services to ensure that systems, technologies, and processes are safe, effective, compliant, and future-ready, across three main areas:

Independent Assurance - We provide risk based, proportionate, independent oversight and assurance of whether a project, process, system or product meets defined standards, requirements, or expectations.

Research & Technology - We identify, define and execute programmes of Research and Technology to support the continued safe operation of some of the world’s most complex engineering challenges, including the UK Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme.​

Independent Regulatory Support - A ring-fenced and independent organisation that supports regulators with assessments, audits, and guidance development.

IA&R has an aspiration to grow, transform and evolve into new industries, locations and technologies.

About the Role

Do you have a track record in Independent Nuclear Assurance or Regulation?

Do you want to be in control of when you work and what you work on?

Amentum are looking to expand its pool of experienced nuclear professionals for Associates roles, to work flexibly on a range of exciting projects and long- term programmes in IA&R. The roles can be home based or be based at any of our UK office locations.

What we are looking for

You will have a track record in the Nuclear Civil or Defence sector across areas such as Nuclear Safety, Assurance, Regulation and Environment. Our requirements are not fixed, but examples of some of the things you may have done could include;

  • National and International Nuclear and Environmental Regulation

  • Independent Nuclear Safety Assessment (INSA) / Independent Peer Review (IPR)

  • Nuclear Safety case

  • Nuclear Safety Committees membership (or similar)

  • WANO reviews and technical support missions

  • On-site Independent Oversight roles

  • Nuclear Operations

Experience Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in Civil or Defence nuclear.

  • Good understanding of Nuclear Regulation, associated standards and guidance, and appreciation of the wider Industry.

  • Degree or equivalent in technical discipline e.g. Engineering, Physics, Chemistry etc.

  • Excellent communication, report writing and analytica skills.

  • Stake holder and client engagement, advising and influencing.

  • Desirable - engaging directly with regulators, licensees, or duty holders.

  • These roles will require security clearance; therefore, applicants should hold or be able to obtain security clearance in the UK.
