Job Description
The Carpenter will be based at one of two Amentum sites in Iraq and serve under the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. The Carpenter performs the carpentry duties necessary to maintain in good repair building woodwork and equipment such as bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, doors, floors, stairs, casings, and trim made of wood. This position collaborates with the Property Supervisor to schedule material deliveries and resolve inventory discrepancies and will report to the Carpentry Supervisor. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
DUTIES:
Plan and layout carpentry work in accordance with construction drawings, blueprints, verbal instructions, or design specifications using advanced measurement and layout tools.
Measure, cut, fabricate, and install wood, plywood, and other materials for framing, partitioning, and finish work using both hand and power tools.
Construct, install, and repair structures such as walls, doors, floors, cabinets, trim, and other wood or composite material fixtures in compliance with applicable codes and safety regulations.
Operate woodworking equipment and machinery such as table saws, jointers, planers, routers, and sanders with precision and attention to safety.
Inspect completed work to ensure alignment with specifications, structural integrity, and overall quality.
Collaborate with other trades (e.g., electricians, plumbers, welders) to coordinate tasks and avoid conflicts during construction or repair work.
Interpret and modify drawings as necessary in the field to accommodate unforeseen conditions or project-specific adjustments.
Maintain job records, complete material requests, document time and tasks, and report project progress to the Carpentry Supervisor or Project Manager.
Ensure safe and orderly work areas by maintaining tools, equipment, and materials in accordance with safety standards.
Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
REQUIRED:
Minimum Acceptable Experience Level:
Five (5) years of experience in commercial or industrial carpentry, including framing, finishing, cabinetmaking, drywall, and/or concrete formwork.
Demonstrated experience interpreting construction blueprints and technical drawings.
Experience with U.S. building codes and safety standards (e.g., OSHA compliance).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents such as blueprints, shop drawings, and construction specifications.
Skilled in the safe operation of power and hand tools, and in the proper selection of materials for various applications.
Strong understanding of carpentry techniques, structural requirements, and finish standards.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Knowledge of job site safety practices and hazard identification.
Familiarity with material takeoffs and basic construction math.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Competency with basic computer tools, including Microsoft Word and Excel, for reporting and documentation.
Education:
High school diploma or GED is required.
Completion of a formal carpentry apprenticeship program or vocational training in carpentry is preferred.
Journeyman-level certification in carpentry from a recognized U.S. licensing body or trade organization is strongly preferred.
Passport, Licenses and Certifications:
As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts, candidates must possess a valid passport with a minimum of 18 months remaining to expiration date with 8 blank pages.
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
Security Vetting: Active DOD or DOS Security clearance. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification level for the duration of the contract.
Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.
Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.
DESIRED:
Previous experience working with Amentum preferred
Previous outside-of-home-country experience is highly desirable and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:
This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to an extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
