The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
Responsibilities
- Be able to operate and generally maintain all types of light and heavy equipment, both diesel and gasoline engine powered.
- Must know quadrant of operation, read load charts, know the structural stability of all cranes and understand the dynamic and shock loading of cranes.
- Select, secure and adjust suitable chains, cables, slings, hooks and other lifting and securing devices to properly load/unload and balance a variety of equipment, and other items being moved or positioned by mobile cranes.
- Perform safety checks on cranes, forklifts, aerial platforms etc., before and after operations.
- Operate mobile hydraulic cranes.
- Operate motor vehicles with responsibility for proper loading and unloading.
- Operate heavy trucks and truck-trailers (4-ton and over) to transport materials and equipment to various areas on the installation.
- Operate ground support equipment as required to accomplish work assignments.
- Ability to fabricate wire rope and proof load equipment.
- High School education + 3 years of experience.
- NCCCO and Class A CDL with HAZMAT preferred.

Physical Requirements:
- Will be required to climb stairs and platforms to access equipment - working at heights will be required.
- Climbing ladders will be required.
- Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection, hard hats, safety boots/shoes and other associated PPE.
- Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
- Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs/ladders, and access to remote structures.
- Must be able to work in tight confined space areas.
Work Environment:
- All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA, OSHA, and Company safety standards.
- Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
- Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
- Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on KSC.
Equipment and Machines:
- Cranes and other heavy equipment such as crane carriers, Hi-Rangers, man-lift platforms, hydraulic lifts, spider staging, converter dollies, cargo lift trailers, and tractor/trailers. Motor-Grader experience desirable.
- Must utilize personal computers and related computer peripheral equipment to work in Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), record work performance and job/task notes, update logs and records, and print documents.
- Scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment as required.
Attendance
- Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
- Must be dependable and punctual.
- Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule

• Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
• Must be able to drive tasks to completion; self-starter and proactive follow-through on assigned tasks is a must
• Able to manage multiple tasks and set personal priorities; willing to reset priorities when they change and adapt to a dynamic environment
