Role Description:

The Deputy Cyber Manager provides specialist Cyber and ICT systems security expertise to ACSPO, supporting complex and sensitive capability environments, including up to and including Special Access Programs (SAP). The position works closely with internal and external stakeholders across Defence, providing authoritative advice on cyber readiness, system security, assurance, and accreditation.


The successful candidate will liaise with stakeholders at all levels, build strong working relationships, and act as a key point of contact for operational security enquiries.

This full-time position is based at Williamtown, near Newcastle. 

Day to day tasks include:

  • Act as a key point of contact for operational ICT and cyber security enquiries, engaging with stakeholders at all levels across Defence and industry.
  • Delivering system security services, including Cyber readiness verification, assurance, and authorisation support for ACSPO ICT systems.
  • Providing Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice on Cyber and information security, including technical, policy, and governance matters, to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Planning, conducting, and documenting ICT system certification and accreditation activities, including systems up to and including Special Access Programs (SAP), in accordance with ASIG and the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Developing Assessment and Authorisation (A&A) artifacts to Defence writing standards and providing risk‑based recommendations to authorising bodies.
  • Identifying, managing, and validating ICT system security requirements through security planning, design, implementation, and verification and validation (V&V).
  • Supporting capability and concept development in technical security, ensuring compliance with Defence security policy, governance, and assurance frameworks.
  • Producing high‑quality security documentation and providing expert cyber security advice to support operational outcomes and resolve system security issues.

Essential Requirements:

  • You are a cyber and ICT security professional, comfortable working in complex, highly regulated environments. You understand both the technical and governance aspects of security, with the ability to translate technical requirements into effective governance outcomes, including supporting system authorisation and accreditation activities.
  • You engage confidently with Technical Specialists, Project Teams, and Senior Stakeholders, bringing a practical, risk-based approach to security assurance. You demonstrate strong stakeholder engagement skills and emotional intelligence, adapting your communication style to suit a range of audiences.
  • Success in this role comes from thriving in collaborative, small team environments while contributing your expertise across a broader organisational context. You are also capable of stepping up when required, ensuring continuity of direction and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience in ICT and cyber security accreditation aligned with organisational policy and governance frameworks.
  • Experience providing security assurance, certification, and accreditation advice for ICT systems, including high‑security environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interpret and provide advice on policy, procedures, and governance requirements.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across a broad, complex organisational environment while delivering specialist cyber security services

Location: Williamtown, NSW

Weekly Hours: 40 hours, Monday-Friday, Onsite
