The Project Director will play a pivotal role in overseeing high-stakes nuclear EPC projects, ensuring the successful delivery of engineering, procurement, and construction activities across the full nuclear lifecycle. This position requires a strategic leader with deep technical expertise in engineering, procurement, project management, construction, project controls, estimating, subcontracts, and legal terms and conditions. The role encompasses directing engineering deliverables, managing EPC new nuclear builds, supporting business development, leading proposal efforts, and providing advisory services to both clients and internal teams. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, driving project success while fostering innovation and collaboration in the evolving nuclear energy landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Project Direction for Engineering Deliverables: Lead the development, review, and delivery of all engineering outputs, including design specifications, technical drawings, and compliance documentation. Ensure alignment with regulatory standards and project timelines, while coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams to mitigate risks and optimize performance.
Management for New Nuclear Builds: Oversee the full lifecycle of EPC projects for new power generation facilities, including nuclear facilities, from development activities, site preparation, and procurement to construction, commissioning, and decommissioning. Manage scope, budget, cost, risk, and schedule across nuclear lifecycle (nuclear fuel facilities, AMR, SMR, and gigawatt-scale) nuclear builds, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, quality assurance, and environmental regulations throughout all phases.
Business Development Support: Participate in customer meetings and technical discussions with nuclear technology companies, utilities, IPPs, developers, financing partners, datacenter developers, etc. Provide expert technical support to identify opportunities, build relationships, and contribute to winning new contracts by demonstrating our EPC capabilities and value proposition.
Proposal Leadership: Develop and lead comprehensive proposal strategies, including project execution plans, construction methodologies, integrated schedules, cost estimates, cash flow curves, and Project Management Office (PMO) frameworks. Coordinate cross-functional teams to create compelling bids that address client needs, risks, and value drivers, while incorporating best practices in overall project management.
Advisory and Input Services: Deliver specialized advisory services in engineering, procurement, construction, fabrication, modularization, subcontracts, lessons learned, and procurement strategies to clients and internal stakeholders. Provide insights on risk management, supply chain optimization, and innovative solutions to enhance project outcomes. Facilitate knowledge transfer within the company to improve processes and support ongoing projects.
General Project Management: Establish and maintain PMO activities, including performance tracking, resource allocation, stakeholder communication, and change management. For projects assigned, conduct regular project reviews, audits, and reporting to ensure projects meet or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cost, schedule, safety, and quality.
Team Leadership and Collaboration: Mentor and guide project teams, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to resolve issues and drive project success.
Risk and Compliance Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, ensuring compliance with all applicable nuclear regulations, industry standards, and company policies. Promote a strong safety culture and implement lessons learned from previous projects.
Technical Skills
- Deep knowledge of engineering principles, reactor technologies, power generation facilities and EPC methodologies.
- Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) for scheduling, estimating, and cash flow analysis.
- Expertise in regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, NQA-1).
- Familiarity with modular construction, fabrication techniques, and supply chain management in nuclear projects.
Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership and communication abilities, with experience in high-level stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills in complex, high-pressure environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and adapt to evolving project needs.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree; 15 years of progressive management experience; and excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills required. Master's degree and experience in a government contracting environment preferred. Must be articulate with executive presence, creative and forward-looking, clear thinker and decision-maker, change agent, and have a track record of continuing education. Position generally requires extensive travel. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
