Overview
The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering ( TFOME ) team at the NASA Glenn Research Center is searching for an Engineering Technician.
TFOME is dedicated to excellence in service and to providing outstanding technical opportunities for our employees. We specialize in providing engineering and technical services in the areas of aero/space propulsion and power test facilities to NASA Glenn.
Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is $43.40 hourly. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Function of Position
Performs non routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project.
Responsibilities
Designs, develops, and constructs major units, devices, or equipment; conducts tests or experiments; analyzes results and redesigns or modifies equipment to improve performance; and reports results.
From general guidelines and specifications (e.g., size or weight requirements), develops designs for equipment without critical performance requirements which are difficult to satisfy such as engine parts, research instruments, or special purpose circuitry. Analyzes technical data to determine applicability to design problems; selects from several possible design layouts; calculates design data; and prepares layouts, detailed specifications, parts lits, estimates, procedures, etc. May check and analyze drawings or equipment to determine adequacy of drawings and design.
Plans or assists in planning tests to evaluate equipment performance. Determines test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures; conducts tests using all types of instruments; analyzes and evaluates test results and prepares reports on findings and recommendations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
A. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Works from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, man-lifts, cab cranes, suspended platforms or cages, etc.
2. Works while bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, or in a prone position for extended time periods.
3. Works in closely confined spaces.
4. Lifts and carries items up to 50 pounds, sometimes up and down stairways, where lifting devices and hoists are not available.
5. Pushes and pulls heavy objects.
6. Ability to use hearing and vision protection and respiratory equipment.
7. One eye (minimum) correctable to 20/20.
8. Ability to distinguish eight color panel display.
B. WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. Work indoors and out in high and low temperatures and in all types of weather conditions.
2. Work in dusty, noisy, hot, high humidity, dirty, and greasy environment.
3. Work in areas where there may be materials that are irritating to eyes, nose, throat, and skin while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
4. Work with other personnel in a group that is Team Oriented.
5. Accept and work within established policies and procedures pertaining to company rules and regulations.
C. MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS
1. Up to 1½ ton trucks and vehicles
2. Fork lifts
3. Manlifts such as JLG, scissor lifts, and Bucket truck, etc.
4. Cranes
5. Mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic hand tools
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Associate of applied sciences or engineering technology degree, or a minimum of eight to ten years' experience plus two to four years' experience journeyperson status in related field of technical expertise.
Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of large hazardous research aerospace test facilities.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision.
Ability to use own judgement and decisions to allow continuity of work flow.
