Fuel System Mechanic

Amentum is seeking a Fuel System Mechanic to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Fuel System Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining and repairing fuel systems and associated components to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.

Job Responsibilities:
•    Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot fuel systems and equipment, including fuel storage tanks, pipelines, fuel pumps, strainers, valves, and filtration systems.
•    Inspect and test fuel systems for leaks, malfunctions, or defects, identifying and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime.
•    Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance on fueling systems to ensure optimal operation and compliance with military and government standards.
•    Perform pipefitting, welding, assembly, and disassembly to maintain or repair fuel system components in accordance with manufacturer requirements.
•    Handle, transport, and dispose of fuel and fuel-related waste materials in accordance with environmental and regulatory standards.
•    Use technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints to identify, diagnose, and perform repairs on complex fuel systems.
•    Operate specialized tools and equipment, such as pumps, meters, and valves, as well as general mechanical, hydraulic, and plumbing tools.
•    Maintain and enforce safety and hazard control procedures, using personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safety protocols.
•    Document all work performed, including inspections, repairs, and services, in maintenance reports and logs for compliance tracking purposes.
•    Assist in developing and implementing operational procedures and checklists for inspection and maintenance of fuel components.
•    Support fueling operations by ensuring systems are functioning properly and meeting operational demands.
•    Collaborate with other maintenance personnel to address system malfunctions or maintenance needs that may impact operations.
•    Required to comply with all occupational safety and health standards, rules, and orders applicable to their actions and conduct. The role demands consistent, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proactive reporting of workplace hazards, and total adherence to safety protocols to maintain a zero-injury environment.
•    Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.


Required Qualifications:
•    3-5 years of hands-on experience in maintenance, repair, and operation of fuel systems and related mechanical components.
•    High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications or technical training in mechanical systems, fuel operations, or plumbing are strongly preferred.
•    Proficient in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing fuel storage, transfer, and distribution systems.
•    Familiarity with fuel system components, including pumps, valves, storage tanks, filtration systems, and associated piping.
•    Knowledge of industry safety standards, including those for handling hazardous and flammable materials.
•    Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints for mechanical and fuel systems.
•    Proficiency in using equipment such as pressure gauges, fuel pump systems, and testing devices for system inspections.
•    Strong attention to detail, analytical abilities, and problem-solving skills.
•    Ability to complete and maintain accurate maintenance logs, reports, and other documentation as required.
•    Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
•    Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. 
Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
 

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred.
•    Valid country driver’s license.
•    Certification in mechanical maintenance or fuel system operations (e.g., certification in fuel handling and storage).
•    Prior experience supporting fuel systems and operations in a military or government environment.
•    Knowledge of and experience working with military fuel system guidelines and standards.
•    Experience operating within an FAA- or DoD-regulated environment for fuel systems.
•    Familiarity with NAVFAC and other relevant technical or operational procedures.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements. 
 
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
