Hazardous Waste Technician

Purpose: Responsible for the environmental compliance of all on-site contract activities as well as coordinating clean-up efforts for any environmental release.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs environmental inspections and assessments of shops, parking areas, hazardous materials storage areas, and hazardous waste accumulation points, and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • Assesses the compliance of the Department of Defense (DoD) Shelf-Life Extension Program.
  • Trains employees on environmental monitor duties, spill prevention, and spill response.
  • Conducts investigations on environmental releases and recommend corrective actions.
  • Retrogrades Parts verification (free of oil and residue)
  • Completes hazardous shipping declaration documents as required.
  • Enters Uncontrolled spills in Amentum’s reporting system
  • Adheres to Amentums SPCC (Spill Prevention Control Plan)
  • Strives to continuously improve the site’s environmental stewardship.
  • Performs energy assessments on all Amentum occupied buildings.
  • Assists safety personnel when necessary to include performing safety inspections and conducting safety investigations.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Conserves resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies; and renewing certifications.
  • Maintains a daily timesheet and daily manning report ensuring times are accurate.
  • This position may require Travel.
  • Ensures strict compliance to safety practices and support the Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Instills a safety-first mentality within respective work areas and a culture that achieves low accident rates and minimal lost-time injuries.
  • Adheres to ISO Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions in support of Quality Management System.
  • Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in environment, Hazardous Material/Hazardous Waste (hazmat/Haz waste), or equivalent field
  • 3 years of experience with hazmat/Haz waste shipping or receiving.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent computer knowledge and skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook), interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuing education and training in environment, safety, and occupational health with an emphasis in environment and hazmat/Haz waste.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • International driver’s license prior to deployment preferred.
  • HAZ 12 & 15 certified preferred but not required.
  • Prior Military preferred

Certification, License & Clearance:

  • Valid US Driver’s license required.
  • Hazwoper 40 Certification required
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a CAC, if required.
  • Must obtain the Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification within 1 year of hire.

Facility credentials/authorization required:

Must be able to obtain and maintain facility and credential /authorization:

Note- US Citizenship is required for facility credential/authorization at this work location.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

  • Ability to perform job duties efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions including dust and high temperatures.
  • Must be able to endure long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
  • When performing work, responsible for adhering to environmental, safety, and health standards related to the activity, including the wearing of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
