We have an exciting opportunity for a IT Systems & Dev Ops Software Engineer to join the team with HX5, a teammate company.

The IT Systems & Dev Ops Software Engineer will:

  • Serve as the primary technical expert for integrating, operating, and sustaining complex GRAIL laboratory environments supporting NASA programs.

  • This role focuses on:

    • IT systems administration

    • Network and Software Focused DevOps practices

    • Linux-based infrastructure

    • Network engineering

    • Software/hardware configuration management for GRAIL and Other labs.

  • Ensures secure, reliable, and interoperable lab environments by coordinating cross-lab interfaces, managing lab networks and services, maintaining system & software configurations

  • Support integrated test events

  • Hands-on technical leadership

  • Strong communication with engineering teams

  • Ability to manage lab network

  • Software and server resources

  • Certification activities

  • Operational readiness for mission-critical testing.



Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Typically requires a bachelor degree or equivalent certification in a related area and normally possesses 10 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

  • Experience administering Linux/Unix systems, including user authentication, storage, and system-level troubleshooting.

  • Experience with IT systems administration, including server configuration, software patching, monitoring, and backup/restore NASA Flight Software.

  • Experience with DevOps or automation practices, such as CI/CD workflows, scripting, or infrastructure-as-code.

  • Experience with technical integration of hardware and software systems in a lab or engineering environment.

  • Experience with network configuration and administration, including TCP/IP fundamentals and secure network operations.

  • Experience with security planning, implementation, and compliance, including physical and IT security controls.

  • Experience with software license management, tracking, and procurement.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage configuration baselines for systems, networks, and lab resources.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and network layers.

  • Effective written and verbal communication with internal and external customers.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Willingness to work onsite at NASA Johnson Space Center and complete required government background investigations.

  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required



Requisition Preferences:

  • Advanced Linux/Unix system administration, including shell scripting, automation, and performance tuning.

  • Experience with DevOps toolchains (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, or similar).

  • Experience with network analysis tools, VLAN configuration, routing, and switch administration.

  • Familiarity with ARINC 664 Rate-Constrained Ethernet or SAE AS6802 Time-Triggered Ethernet.

  • Experience with system and software configuration management tools and processes.

  • Experience supporting lab environments, including hardware integration, system imaging, and environment sustainment.

  • Experience with server hardware maintenance, virtualization platforms, and backup strategies.

  • Experience with system requirements analysis and interface control documentation (ICD) development.

  • Familiarity with NASA JSC networks, processes, and engineering lab operations.

  • Experience coordinating multi-team test events (PDR,CDR URR, TRR) and integrated demonstrations.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
