Lunar Rover Thermal Engineer to join the team with Aerodyne Industries, a teammate company.
** We are actively searching for qualified candidates for this potential opening; however, we do not have assurance at this time when the position will be finalized and opened. Because we have strong reason to believe the position will be approved soon, we are proceeding with identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews. **
We seek a skilled engineer to perform lunar surface thermal modeling and to develop best practices and guidelines for rover thermal development. This role includes integrated modeling, system reviews, hardware evaluation, and support leadership.
Key responsibilities include the following:
- Distill best practices and draft guidelines for rover thermal development.
- Develop and analyze integrated thermal models for lunar surface applications.
- Participate in and support thermal model and document reviews.
- Evaluate passive thermal hardware solutions.
- Assist with requirement definition and verification to support development milestones.
- Conduct trade studies for thermal system approaches.
- Lead and support thermal testing efforts.
- Perform model correlation and validation using test data.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and communication with cross-functional management and engineering teams.
- Serve as deputy PTCS sub-system manager for EVA and Human Surface Mobility Program (EHP) projects.
Requisition Qualifications:This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.
- Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and normally possess 5-10 years of related experience
- Minimum of 5 years of engineering analysis experience related to thermal control systems.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills, able to articulate conclusions and defend them when challenged.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Requisition Preferences:
- BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
- Understanding of mission development phases and milestone requirements.
- Proven track record in conducting trade studies, model reviews, and correlation activities.
- Professional experience with thermal modeling for spacecraft, landers, or rovers.
- Hands-on familiarity with passive thermal hardware and associated selection criteria.
- System management experience preferred.

Essential Functions Work Environment Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
Equipment and Machines Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Attendance Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
