The Network Engineer serves as the network and communications engineer for the SOC-E contract.  Furnishes engineering expertise and technical information on requirements analysis, network/communication systems design and engineering support. Supports network/communication systems design, development, implementation and testing for approved projects.

This position is part of a 24/7 operational environment. Shift schedules are subject to change based upon operational needs. Candidates must be willing to work a non-standard schedule. Specific shift details can be provided during the interview process. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead with recommendations for innovations, design improvements, equipment/media replacement to improve mission operations and functionality.  
  • Reviews problem reports and participates in root cause analyses and quality reviews.
  • Contributes to the preparation of programmatic and engineering documentation. ·      
  • Supports networking and long-haul communications systems and has a working knowledge of systems administration tasks.  
  • Utilizes collaboration tools, e.g. SharePoint, to manage circuit actions and engineering projects from start to completion.
  • Analyzes network traffic, quality of service (QoS) and other performance parameters.
  • Contributes input on the design changes with the Government change control board and provides support to the change control board upon request.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of C4ISR architectures and concepts.
  • Maintains a thorough familiarity with QA, CM, and test practices/tools.
  • Participates in trade studies for concept development, product evaluation, and design decision making.
  • Provides expertise on networking and long-haul communications systems and has a working knowledge of systems administration tasks.
  • Lead in the coordination of all design changes with the Government Change Control Board (CCB) and provides support to the change control board upon request.
  • Provides technical support for the planning and scheduling of program tasks.
  • Documents designs in appropriate drawings and plans.
  • Contributes to the reviews and assesses proposed changes to the IT infrastructure to ensure network security and information assurance requirements are considered and effectively applied.
  • Conducts risk assessments and scans.
  • Supports Certification & Accreditation (C&A) risk analysis, penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and C&A management for supported networks, assists security certifications and accreditations.
  • Develops, maintains, and distributes customer-friendly templates and step-by-step guides to assist customers with IA requests.
  • Research false positive scan results, coordinates with external activities on compliance, and ensures that vulnerability findings are reported and tracked until resolved.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned or requested. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate degree in one or more engineering or science disciplines or equivalent combination of academic and/or technical training and related work experience or equivalent combination technical and military experience.
  • 3+ years or relevant experience based upon education
  • Ability to achieve and maintain Germany Technical Expert Status Accreditation (TESA) with a bachelor's degree and 3 years relative experience OR associate degree or major certification and 7 years relative experience OR High School diploma and 11 years relative experience, augmented by ongoing academic/technical/military training and/or certification programs specific to the work unit hardware/software tools.
  • Must possess and maintain Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI. Please note, US citizenship is required to obtain a clearance.
  • Possess and maintain a DoD 8140 IA certification matched to assigned duties
  • Must possess a valid U.S. passport with an expiration date no less than one year from the date of this job posting.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state issued driver’s license.
  • Must possess excellent oral, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Experience with network monitoring and analysis tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark).
  • Experience creating and maintaining network diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing to colleagues, customers, and stakeholders
  • Possess advanced problem solving, analytical and communication skills in addition to technical knowledge of network hardware and software.
  • Advanced knowledge base with Project Management principles, engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, allocation, verification, and system design.
  • Thorough knowledge of mission/operations, analysis, requirements definition, and support.
  • Advanced knowledge of available hardware, software, and network products and designs.

Preferred requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information assurance/technology or related field.
  • Certified Internet work Expert with Network Design
  • One (1) Year ATM Architecture experience
  • Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience in network management, configuration, design and implementation in a DoD operations C4ISR environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of SATCOM/RF fundamentals and antenna theory of operation.
  • Previous experience as a Quality Assurance Representative.
  • Experience serving as a Communications Security (COMSEC) Responsible Officer
  • Experience with Information Technology Asset Management (ITAM).
  • Experience as an Air Force Equipment Custodian.
  • Experience in a Health and Safety Coordinator role.
  • Experience managing Government Furnished Property (GFP).
  • Experience with the Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS). Experience with Data Loss Prevention (DLP) monitoring and tracking.
  • Experience as a Cyber Security Liaison
  • Experience as a HAZMAT/Environmental Coordinator.
  • Experience operating a warehouse forklift
  • SharePoint management experience
  • Database creation and management experience
  • Experience with DISA STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides)
  • 5+ years network design experience
