We are now recruiting for a Nuclear Operations Director to join our team.

Purpose and Scope:      

As Operations Director you will provide strategic direction and oversight on our existing and future programmes.  Give direction and support to our project and client organizations in the development of full life cycle operations strategies in challenging complex, regulated environments encompassing research, development, design, manufacture, test, installation, commissioning, pre-operations and transition to operational service. This position is recognized as an expert in complex operational challanges with particular focus on developing a strong nuclear safety and manufacturing culture within our projects and client organizations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside our clients to develop the operational management strategy to optimize the asset’s reliability and operational performance lifespan.

  • Build a strong and compelling vision for delivering operational excellence in technical teams across the business, demonstrating an ability to lead and add value to opportunities in a highly competitive and changing marketplace. 

  • Build a strong, collaborative, and positive working culture among the operations team, and for be responsible for delivering the full potential of synergies and efficiencies with the wider business.

  • To ensure the projects implement the relevant requirements (with nuclear safety being the overriding priority) to meet the full life cycle outcomes of the facility defined within the programme/project specification for fissile island.

  • To ensure that appropriate consideration is given to standardisation and optimisation of how facilities will be safely operated and maintained in the delivery of its required performance demand including peak and average throughputs whilst minimising lifetime costs.

  • Guide the projects in all aspects of nuclear design ensuring consistency of approach across our nuclear projects.

  • Provide intelligence in the application of customer standards and requirements to project deliverables. Where necessary offer challenge and changes to established client custom and practice.

  • To ensure alignment to the overall mission drivers by maintaining the clients best interests across the project portfolio through programme and portfolio management.

  • Assist the client in making the priority calls across the portfolio/programme when there are competing project demands in relation to operations.

  • Manage the client’s functional specification and development of (project) requirements, ensuring any change is aligns with programme outcomes (configuration Mgt).  

  • Promote consistency of approach across the project portfolios in meeting lifecycle requirements – operability, commissioning, asset life cycle, technical basis of maintenance, regulatory compliance, resourcing, training, and documentation.

  • Deliver the Pre-ops capability to support the client in providing sufficient SQEP resource to systematically incorporate O&M learning into the Project as it progresses through the critical stage gates and define and implement the O&M requirements for the start of active commissioning.  This could include establishing training and or recruitment for nuclear operations resource.

  • Evaluates operational performance and assurance of proposed designs.

  • Acts as and is recognized as a Company/industry expert resource on the most complex operational problems.

  • May lead operations teams and act as a mentor to operations team members.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ideally hold Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related scientific field and proven years of senior plant operational experience.

  • Ideally Chartered.

  • Demonstrated capability to interface with customers and provide direction to technically qualified personnel are preferred.

  • Excellent communications and analytical skills; able to demonstrate and apply principles and theory underpinning operational practices and legislative standards in the delivery of large complex programmes and facilities.

  • Experienced in dealing with regulators, developing solutions, stakeholder relations to maintain legislative compliance and plant functionality.  

Position may require travel.

Currently hold SC or prepared to go through the DV.
