About the Opportunity

The ANSWERS Software Service supplies high quality software and consultancy services for customers world-wide in the areas of reactor physics, radiation shielding, dosimetry, nuclear criticality, well logging and nuclear data.

As the Operations Manager you'll be responsible for leading a team of engineers and specialists to deliver high–value solutions to key clients, while championing innovation across the business. The role focuses on building strong, value-adding client relationships, ensuring high standards of delivery performance and client satisfaction, and driving team capability, growth, and recruitment.

Growth is a core focus of the role, supporting an expanding client base and maximising opportunities across existing and emerging markets.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

Team Leadership and Management

  • Provide inclusive and effective leadership focused on staff wellbeing, professional development, and career progression, aligned with Amentum’s core values and expectations, through ownership of the ANSWERS Software and Modelling Team People Plan.

  • Lead the day-to-day management of the ANSWERS Modelling and Software team, located across multiple offices, with Dorchester and Warrington as primary hubs.

  • Manage performance and development through goal setting, regular feedback, performance reviews, recruitment, and compensation planning.

  • Coordinate resourcing and recruitment needs, leading interview, selection, and approval processes.

  • Successfully lead and manage a distributed, virtual team to achieve deliverable-based outcomes.

Operational Excellence and Governance

  • Ensure all work complies with Health & Safety, Quality, and Governance requirements.

  • Maintain transparent, ethical, effective, and efficient operations aligned with Amentum’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives.

  • Provide oversight of project and task delivery, ensuring best practice is applied and delivery commitments are met or exceeded.

  • Identify and implement improvements to enhance project performance, operational efficiency, and business outcomes.

  • Embed sustainability principles into solutions and project delivery.

Here's What You'll Need

  • Leadership, collaboration and team working skills.

  • People focus, both internally to inspire and externally to listen to client needs and provide focused solutions.

  • Degree or equivalent qualification / experience in a relevant technical or business discipline.

  • Physics, maths or software discipline specific knowledge and experience.

  • Awareness of the operating culture and regulatory environment within the nuclear industry.

  • Ability to think strategically and clearly define, communicate and deliver a business strategy.

  • Experience of business development and the production of winning bids for the provision of successful License Sales and consultancy that comply with corporate governance.

  • Good understanding of financial and commercial aspects of operations management.

  • Able to communicate effectively and develop relationships with at all levels of the business and external organisations.

  • A clear focus on collaboration and growth.

  • Experience of managing / oversight of high performing projects and project delivery.

  • Good understanding of Project Management principles and techniques with delivery in a highly regulated sector.

  • Delivery of innovative technological solutions.
