Advanced Solutions specializes in the development, design, construction, and operation of unique and complex research & development, scientific, and test facilities, including wind tunnels (aerospace, DoD, automotive, motorsports, etc.), rocket test stands, climatic chambers, jet engine test cells, acoustic chambers, altitude test facilities, captive trajectory systems, and nuclear facilities. AS is looking for a Network and System Administrator to support the setup and control of development environments that we build for internal use and deliver to our clients. This is a two-sided role that blends IT infrastructure administration with hands-on network design and configuration. A successful candidate must be team-oriented, organized, able to communicate to all levels of the organization, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities: Infrastructure Operations and Environment Setup

·         Assist in the setup, configuration, and management of development environments used internally and delivered to clients, including Windows and Linux servers, workstations, and lab systems that support engineering and technical operations.

·         Support administration of new and legacy network storage systems.

·         Create and manage license servers for multiple engineering software applications on both Windows and Linux.

·         Deploy and manage virtualization platforms such as VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, and Proxmox VE.

·         Support Linux systems administration for infrastructure and high-performance computing (HPC) environments, including Debian and RHEL distributions.

·         Assist with maintaining and checking the health of systems, backups, and restore testing.

·         Document environment builds, network configurations, and standard operating procedures for internal and client use.

·         Track work progress and develop risk mitigation plans if necessary.

·         Participate in pre-scheduled after-hours support windows and on-call rotation to maintain system and network availability during project commissioning and testing.

Windows System Administration

·         Perform the initial setup and provisioning of Windows systems, including installing operating systems on servers and workstations and applying base configurations for use in development environments.

·         Help set up Active Directory at the local level for our development environments, including creating and managing domains across small networks of Windows devices.

·         Create and manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce configuration and security settings.

·         Create and manage Windows file servers.

·         Maintain provisioned Windows systems through manual updates and security analysis, ensuring systems remain current and potential vulnerabilities are identified and addressed.

Network Design and Configuration

·         Support small network design on a project-to-project basis, including selecting switch makes and models based on requirements and vendor licensing models, procuring parts, and performing configuration before deployment.

·         Configure Layer 2/Layer 3 switches from multiple vendors, including Cisco, Extreme Networks, Brocade, and Dell.

·         Diagnose and troubleshoot network issues both physically and remotely.

·         Apply an understanding of basic network protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing and switching, DNS, DHCP) across project environments.

Required Qualifications

·         Applicant must have an Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Networking, or a related field with 2-4 years of experience in IT infrastructure, network, or system administration support, or a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field with a minimum of 0-2 years of experience.

·         Strong troubleshooting skills and a solid understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and networking fundamentals, including basic network protocols.

·         Basic scripting experience (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for administrative tasks and automation.

·         Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs.

·         Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to design, build, and deliver IT infrastructure in a fast-paced, project-driven setting.

·         Strong written documentation skills, including configuration, build, and procedure documentation.

·         US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance (due to project requirements).

Preferred Qualifications and Technical Skills

·         Experience administering Active Directory, including user and computer account management and Group Policy.

·         Experience with Windows Server administration, including file server management.

·         Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware ESXi/vSphere, Hyper-V, and Proxmox VE).

·         Linux systems administration experience (both Debian-based and RHEL-based distributions), including filesystem management and Bash scripting.

·         Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) concepts, including MPI and parallel computing within a Linux cluster.

·         Experience configuring Layer 2/Layer 3 switches from vendors such as Cisco, Extreme Networks, Brocade, or Dell, including vendor licensing models.

·         Experience creating NAS systems and managing legacy network storage.

·         Experience managing license servers for engineering software on Windows and Linux.

·         Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, Security+, or CompTIA Linux+.

·         Experience with endpoint security tools (e.g., Microsoft Defender).

·         Exposure to environments blending IT and operational technology (OT) in lab, test, or industrial settings.

·         Multimeters and basic network test equipment (<5%)

Criticality of Attendance

·         Work hours four 9-hour days and 4-hour Friday

·         Work arrangement is for work to be performed in the office

·         Overtime to meet project schedules and milestones (10%-20%)

·         Occasional field assignments that include 2nd or 3rd shift (<15%)

Participation in the after-hours on-call rotation on a scheduled basis (5%-10%)
