Station Captain - Fire Department
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the day to day operational functions of the fire station. The Station Captain supervises Crew Chiefs, Driver/Operators and Fire Fighters. Plans, schedules, and coordinates daily details and activities for the duty schedule. Responds to and participates in emergency and service requests.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES
- Supervises Crew Chiefs, Driver/Operators, and Fire Fighters
- Plans, coordinates, and schedules daily fire station activities
- Responds to and participates in emergencies and service requests
- If first on scene, takes command until relieved by a senior fire officer
- Trains and maintains preparedness to respond to emergencies
- Conducts recurring training and on the job training
- Response exercises and operational planning committee meetings
- Maintains adequate resources and ensures they are properly maintained and accounted for
- Responsible for upkeep, preventive maintenance, and professional appearance of the fire station, assigned vehicles, and equipment
- Maintain files and records, calibration and testing schedules, and inspections/inspection results.
- Develops and implements fire inspection schedules
- Develops operational guidelines and standard operating procedures
- Conducts fire investigations to determine origin and moist probable cause
- Creates reports, schedules, and rosters for departmental and personnel activities
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief and/or his representative
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Firefighting apparatus, tools, ladders, equipment, and systems. Personal computer, printer, and other general office equipment.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education: H.S. Diploma or equivalent
- Experience: 5-6 years experience as a Firefighter, Driver/Operator and Crew Chief or related experience
- Fire Officer I and II
- Fire Instructor I
- Fire Inspector I
- HAZMAT Operations and Incident Commander
- Fire Fighter II
- Airport Fire Fighter
- Public Safety Telecommunicator I & II
- Be certified to standards in DOD Instruction (DODI) 6055.6 DOD Fire and Emergency Services Program, AFI 32-2001 The Fire Protections and Operations Fire Prevention Program and NFPA standards
- Pass a physical examination in accordance with NFPA requirements
- Normal color vision
- Apparatus Driver/Operator for Pumper and ARFF vehicles
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Computer skills
- US Citizenship, a valid US or local driver's license and US passport
- Ability to obtain and maintain NACI level DOD clearance
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment
- Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide)
DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Active duty Air Force experience in the 3E7X1 Fire Protection Career field is highly desirable
- Fire Science degree
- SCBA Technician
- EMT Instructor
- CPR Instructor
- Confined Space Rescue Trainer
- HAZMAT Train the Trainer
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
- Must be able to lift/push/pull 150 lbs.
- Participation in daily Physical Training (PT)
- Wearing Fire Fighter personal protective equipment (PPE) including SCBA
- Participation in response training exercises and emergency/accident training exercises
- Work requires walking, standing, crawling, climbing, running, and sitting
- Position is subject to recall 24/7
