Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to design, configure, and support Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and industrial controls for hyperscale and enterprise digital infrastructure projects. This is a remote role supporting national/international projects alongside cross‑functional teams (MEP, Electrical, Mechanical, Commissioning, Operations, and vendors).
You will lead controls and monitoring system design from concept to turnover—owning architecture, device selection, control sequences, network topology, integration, testing, and documentation to ensure resilient, efficient, and compliant data center operations.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering

  • Develop control system architectures, network topologies, point lists, and I/O schedules for BMS and EPMS across multiple sites/projects.
  • Author and maintain Sequences of Operation (SOO) for HVAC, chilled water plants, CRAH/CRAC, heat‑rejection systems, white‑space pressurization, and critical power systems.
  • Produce design drawings and documentation (control schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, one‑lines, risers, network drawings) and Bill of Materials (BoM).
  • Configure and program controllers, HMIs, historian, and alarming per project standards.
  • Specify and integrate field devices (sensors, actuators, meters, gateways) with proper calibration and commissioning requirements,

Standards, Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Apply owner and industry standards (controls guidelines, naming, graphics, alarming, network segmentation/DMZ, hardening baselines).
  • Support compliance with ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, NFPA 70/70E, IEC/IEEE where applicable.
  • Collaborate with IT/OT security to enforce least privilege, certificate management, secure remote access, and patch management.

Project Execution & Support

  • Participate in design reviews, submittal reviews, FAT/SAT, and commissioning (Level 1–5).
  • Develop and execute test plans (point‑to‑point, functional testing, failover, trending validation).
  • Deliver as‑built documentation, O\&M manuals, graphics standards, and training materials.
  • Provide remote support for startup, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls/Automation Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years designing and deploying BMS/EPMS/Controls for mission‑critical facilities (data centers preferred).
  • Hands‑on experience with at least two major BMS platforms (e.g., Schneider EcoStruxure, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo, Honeywell, Trane, Niagara N4).
  • EPMS exposure with power meters (Schneider/Siemens/ABB/Eaton), one‑lines, alarming, demand/energy reporting.
  • Proficiency with BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, OPC; understanding IP networking (VLANs, routing, NAT, firewalls) in OT environments.
  • Ability to produce controls drawings, point lists, SOO, BoM, and commissioning documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting of controls, instrumentation, and network/serial communications.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication for remote collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hyperscale data centers, multi‑site rollout standards, and global templates.
  • Familiarity with PLC/SCADA (Rockwell/Siemens), DCIM, and Historian platforms (PI, Ignition, EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert).
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1/TC 9.9, Uptime Tier requirements, NFPA 70/70E, ISO/IEC 62443 (OT security).
  • Niagara N4 certification; vendor‑specific BMS/EPMS certifications; ISA, PME, or LEED/AP a plus.
  • Experience with Python/PowerShell for data extraction/reporting, and SQL or historian queries.
  • Background in alarm management (EEMUA 191), FDD, and analytics.

Tools & Technologies (Examples)

  • BMS: Niagara N4, EcoStruxure, Metasys, Desigo, Honeywell, Trane.
  • EPMS: EcoStruxure PME/PSO, Siemens SICAM, Eaton/ABB tools; revenue‑grade meters.
  • Design: AutoCAD, Revit, VISIO, Bluebeam; electrical single‑line/riser drafting.
  • Networks: Industrial Ethernet, VLANs, VPN, firewalls, serial gateways.
  • Protocols: BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, SNMP v2/v3, OPC UA/DA.
  • Testing: Wireshark, protocol analyzers, loop‑calibration tools, simulators.
