Amentum is seeking a Systems Engineer – Employment Engineer to join our engineering team in Dahlgren, VA, supporting the Sea-Launched Cruise Missile–Nuclear (SLCM-N) Program. This position will support the development, integration, analysis, and testing of advanced weapon-system capabilities and technologies.


The Systems Engineer – Employment Engineer will support SLCM-N Employment Engineering efforts focused on optimizing weapon-system employment, analyzing targeting data and planning capabilities, translating USSTRATCOM/Combatant Command requirements into platform capabilities, and performing analysis, modeling, and simulation to support threat mitigation, survivability, and weapon-system accuracy.


Systems Engineer – Employment Engineer Essential Responsibilities:


  • Apply detailed knowledge of the SLCM-N Weapon System and subsystem interactions to evaluate the operational impact of new system design choices.
  • Assess impacts to operational users, including USSTRATCOM, Combatant Commanders (CCDRs), Strategic Weapons Facilities (SWFs), the operational fleet, and the NC2 community.
  • Perform analysis of targeting data, mission-planning capabilities, system performance, and emerging threats.
  • Support analysis, modeling, and simulation activities related to threat mitigation, survivability, weapon effectiveness, and platform performance.
  • Participate in trade studies and design optimization activities to ensure physical airframe and software architectures appropriately balance survivability, range, and lethality.
  • Support requirements definition, schedule alignment, and L0/L1 requirements tracing.
  • Support development and maintenance of programmatic artifacts, including the Lifecycle Mission Data Plan (LMDP) and Weapons Integration and Systems Engineering (WISE) deliverables.
  • Collaborate closely with the Lead/Product Owner and Technical Project Lead (TPL) to ensure engineering activities remain aligned with customer and program priorities.
  • Support software requirements definition, engineering analysis, specification development, and other systems/software engineering activities.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline; or five (5) years of demonstrated and established knowledge and subject-matter testing expertise in lieu of the degree.
  • Five (5) years of experience supporting nuclear operations, nuclear command and control principles, strategic weapons, nuclear planning, and national-level command and control programs.
  • Five (5) years of software engineering experience supporting a real-time, software-intensive Weapon System, Command System, or Intelligence System, including software requirements definition activities.
  • Three (3) years of specialized experience in areas including:
    • Software engineering and requirements analysis.
    • Design tradeoff studies.
    • Structured requirements-analysis methodologies for real-time, software-intensive weapon systems.
    • Weapon-system specification development using tools such as DOORS (Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System).
    • Software requirements definition, engineering analysis, and/or software specification development.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Secret security clearance. Note: U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain RD/FRD access, as required for the position.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Educational or professional background in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Aerospace.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance preferred.
