Role description:
In this role, you will deliver a Future Lead-In Fighter System (FLIFS) inclusive of aircraft, simulators, facilities, ground support equipment, and training materials.  The FLIFS system will replace the existing Introductory Fighter Course (IFC) and Introductory Fighter Course - Air Combat Officer (IFC-A) systems at 79 Squadron and 76 Squadron and will train fast jet (combat) aircrew to the point where they commence conversion training to front line combat aircraft.

You will be responsible to the Project Director and will work under limited direction to perform and achieve moderately complex tasks with a predominantly systems engineering workforce. The Team Lead will liaise with stakeholders at all levels, building good working relationships and providing a point of contact for project enquiries.


This position is full time and required to be onsite at Russell Offices, Canberra.

Day to day tasks include:

  • Development of high quality, reliable capability documentation and artefacts to capture key information in the Capability Life Cycle (CLC) and the One Defence Capability System (ODCS), including Identify and interpret relevant legislation, policies, strategies, business and team requirements, and apply these to the work task
  • Assist in the coordination and ongoing capability management and delivery of the respective capability management tasks and milestones
  • Coordination and support for the project schedules, risk, budgets, preparation of briefings, submissions, reports and returns relating to the FLIFS in accordance with organisational requirements, including integration and engagement of capability program and governance framework, ensuring consistency and transparency in reporting tools
  • Provide direction and clearly articulate goals to achieve project objectives, including knowledge management
  • Engage, negotiate and work collaboratively through active management within the team and with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and stakeholders to build and sustain effective relationships, to identify and minimise or eliminate capability risks, and to resolve complex issues to achieve business outcomes
  • Contribute to the development of the team, providing ongoing mentoring, training and professional development, including maturing staff knowledge and skills in project delivery

Essential requirements:

  • You are an experienced Project Manager who is confident in delivering leadership to the project team. 
  • You will possess strong written, presentation and communication skills and are confident engaging with senior stakeholders. You are comfortable interpreting policy, managing risk, and providing clear advice whilst delivering planned products on-time and to a high quality within the Aerospace Domain. 
  • You will prioritise strategic planning for managing resources, including the management of schedules, budgets, risk and preparation of briefings, submission, reports and presentations.
  • Project Management qualification or institutional accreditation
  • Active Negative Vetting 1 Security Clearance
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and reporting
  • Strong writing skills, with experience preparing briefs, reports, correspondence, and governance documentation for senior stakeholders
  • Capability Acquisition and Sustainment (CASG) experience is essential 
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
