The Aircraft Mechanic III (General) performs the full range of military tactical aircraft maintenance and maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of complex to extreme difficulty.
Principal Accountabilities
Maintain and repair aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components.
Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation.
Apply professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals.
Make entries in aircraft logs and records, and responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.
Plan, conduct, and supervise aircraft technical inspections.
Compute basic weight and balance records.
Participate in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
Ensure compliance with aircraft configuration control, Army oil analysis Program and test measuring diagnostic equipment calibration.
Provide lower level technicians guidance in aircraft repair and technical inspection techniques and procedures according to directives, technical manuals, work standards and operational policies.
Prepare evaluations, special reports, and records pertaining to aircraft maintenance repair and related activities.
Perform other duties as requested.
Minimum Requirements:
Completion of high school or equivalent is required.
U.S. military technical school or specialized training course is desired, certification of education level is required.
Five (5) or more year’s aviation maintenance experience within the past six (6) years on that mission design series (MDS).
Experience in maintenance, modification and repair of tactical aircraft systems of the type being serviced and their associated components
Must be in possession of a U.S. Passport with 3 years of validity remaining at the time of hire and be able to travel internationally.
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for a facility credentials/authorization at the work location.
Must be able to clear CENTCOM Medical requirements.
Must be able to obtain Kuwait Visa.
Preferred Requirements:
Valid FAA Airframe & Power plant (A&P) License for mechanics and sheetmetal is preferred.
Valid FCC Elements 1 and 3 licenses for electricians and/or FAA Airframe & Power plant (A&P) License is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts.
Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
Basic knowledge of electrical theory and a thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems.
Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects and may be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.
Participate in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
Possess the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by Mechanics.
The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.
Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
May be required to lift heavy objects whose weight may exceed 50 pounds.
Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications.
Will handle dirty parts and lubricants.
Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification.
May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, etc.
Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum of 50 pounds.
May work in maintenance shop or outside.
Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty.
May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment.
May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles.
May be expected to work in austere environments and all weather conditions.
