The Consolidated Operations, Management, Engineering and Test (COMET) contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks support the International Space Station (ISS), Exploration Ground Systems (EGS), Space Launch System (SLS), Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services Programs.
COMET Integration Engineer (CIE) Role:
- Provides ground design engineering integration activities for NASA KSC Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) and Artemis Programs.
- Will be technically proficient and experienced with ground design processes to facilitate and lead the resolution of technical design issues, communication and coordination of design changes, and implementation of new engineering requirements across the subsystems and components within their assigned Element or area of responsibility. o This integration is provided for both internal and external customers of the COMET Engineering Directorate.
Responsibilities: - Lead internal integration of subsystems within the assigned element for the resolution of integrated technical issues, communication and impact of technical changes, and the implementation of new engineering requirements across all groups within COMET Engineering.
- Provide external integration for the resolution of integrated design issues, assessment of technical changes, and implementation of new engineering requirements that impact the assigned area of responsibility between COMET Engineering and other directorates (Spaceflight Processing, Ground Support Systems, Command and Control, and Safety and Mission Assurance.
- Some examples include, but are not limited to, assessing, and impacting Requirement Change Notices (RCNs), Interface Revision Notices (IRNs), COMET Work Requests (CWRs), Engineering Support Requests (ESRs), and Engineering-to-Follow (ETF) Non-Conformances.
- Support external integration for the resolution of integrated technical issues, communication of technical changes, and implementation of new engineering requirements that impact the assigned area of responsibility between COMET Engineering and NASA EGS Program (LX), NASA KSC Engineering (NE), and the OEM's (e.g., LM, Boeing, and NG). This includes support to forums such as program configuration change boards, Chief Engineer reviews, Performance Management Team (PMT) meetings, technical interface working groups/meetings, as well as processing enhancements and lessons learned initiatives.
- Facilitate the consistent and accurate assessment of risk, resource allocation, and schedule within the assigned element. Working with management, when necessary, to ensure that proper resources are assigned to projects/tasks to meet assigned design or operational milestones.
- Provide up and out communication pertaining to design issues and changes within the assigned element to the Associate Chief Engineers and Chief Engineers so it can be assessed at the discipline level and communicated effectively across elements.
- Attend daily Chief Engineer tag-ups and Ops status meetings.
- Initiate, facilitate, and support technical changes that lead to improvements in EGS and COMET safety, reliability, process efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
- Establish and promote quality activities in accordance with the COMET Quality Management Policy. Determine the quality requirements and characteristics of the products/services produced, set goals, evaluate performance, instigate action to attain and exceed goals, and recognize achievement. Seek continual quality improvements.
- Be familiar with KDDMS to review engineering documentation, and Maximo and Solumina to be comfortable navigating the software to review NCs and the proposed corrective actions/process efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
