Our team is comprised of 10 companies working together on one mission, Moon to Mars and then beyond. As a
Material and Process/Composites Engineer you will be responsible for:
- Coordinating manufacturing work load to optimize output relative to assigned priorities
- Working on the development of composite laminate systems in support of the design of the SLS spacecraft
- Assisting in developing design properties anD establishing processing parameters for a wide variety of components-coordinating movement of materials and components from through development and testing process.
- Working with a team of engineers and technicians to establish manufacturing techniques.
Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a PhD with a minimum of 8 years experience, Masters with at least 10 years of experience, or BS with at least 12 years of experience.
- Composite fiber placement experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience with developing and executing detailed work/test instructions and be able to facilitate equipment trouble shooting both developing procedures and documenting findings.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively interface with customers, technicians and management.
- The ability to develop technical papers/presentations and deliver to potential lab customers and at conferences.
Additional qualities:
- Experience working with carbon fiber laminates.
- Aerospace/NASA experience.
- Laser tracker experience.
- 3D CAD modeling.
- Familiar with Pro-E/CREO design/modeling software.
Essential FunctionsWork EnvironmentOffice and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%)
Physical RequirementsRequires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
Equipment and MachinesRequires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
AttendanceNormal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential FunctionsThe ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
