The successful candidate will join the Maintenance Directorate to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. This position reports directly to the Asset Information Manager.
All work will be completed with a high level of quality, professionalism and full adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
Role Overview
Data is only as good as its foundation. We are looking for a detail-oriented Data Analyst intern to serve as the backbone of our digital transformation. Your mission is to clean, structure, and optimize our maintenance data, ensuring our reporting suite is accurate, scalable, and reliable.
Core Responsibilities
The primary mission of this role is to transform raw maintenance logs into actionable intelligence by bridging the gap between historical records and operational insights. You will be responsible for the end-to-end processing of maintenance data, starting with the identification and resolution of data quality issues within our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). By applying statistical methods to clean and normalize these records, you will prepare high-quality datasets that allow for the deep-dive analysis of equipment performance and failure patterns. Your work will directly support the Maintenance Intelligence team by identifying trends in asset reliability, calculating key performance indicators, and ensuring that the data used to drive our digital transformation is both accurate and meaningful for long-term decision-making.
Qualifications
U.S. Citizenship is required. Ability to understand basic engineering terminology. Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and written with effective use of visual aids. Proficiency in Excel, SQL, or Python for data manipulation. Analytical mindset with an interest in Maintenance and Reliability (e.g., MTBF, MTTR metrics) preferred. Must be currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or related field.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:
This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.
