The successful candidate will join the Maintenance Directorate to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. This position reports directly to the Asset Information Manager.

All work will be completed with a high level of quality, professionalism and full adherence to all safety policies and procedures.

Role Overview

We are seeking a creative and technically minded intern with a keen eye for data visualization and UI/UX design to transform complex maintenance data into actionable insights. You will be responsible for building the "digital face" of our Maintenance and Reliability Engineering team, using the Microsoft Power Platform to create intuitive tools that drive decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

The primary mission of this role is to build an automated Maintenance Intelligence engine using the Microsoft Power Platform. You will be responsible for building sophisticated Power BI dashboards that ingest raw equipment data to automatically calculate and visualize critical reliability metrics such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR). Beyond reporting, you will develop Power Automate workflows that act as digital triggers for our maintenance teams, automating the preparation and packaging of data for engineering reviews. By creating these integrated loops between data analysis and actionable alerts, you will ensure our maintenance leadership has a real time, data driven view of our operational health and system performance.

Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship is required. Ability to understand basic engineering terminology. Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and written with effective use of visual aids. Proficiency in Power BI (DAX and Power Query) and a basic understanding of the Power Platform are preferred. Must be currently pursuing a degree in Information Systems, Business Intelligence, Computer Science, or a related field.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

  • Office Environment (50-60%)
  • Test/Industrial Operations (5%) – May be exposed to high noise levels, safety hazards, hazardous materials, and chemicals. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.
  • Travel between facilities and test operations may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation (5%)

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods (100%) as well as lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required.
  • Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs.

  • Employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.

       

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.
