The successful candidate will join the Facility Operations team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE) contract located at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC). This position reports directly to the Low Speed Aeroacoustic Wind Tunnel (LSAWT) operations manager. The Electrical Technician is part of a team that supports wind tunnels other facilities on center. This position works with a combination of old and new equipment, and the work is hands-on, varied, and unique.

Responsibilities:

Must be familiar with high voltage systems, rotating machinery, hydraulic and cooling water systems, and a variety of electrical equipment such as: switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, relays, conduit systems or other equipment including Programmable Logic Controllers.

  • Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications.
  • Locate and diagnose trouble in the electrical system or equipment (e.g. 60 Hz noise).
  • Work standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment.
  • Use a variety of hand tools, and measurement and test equipment.
  • Must be able to fabricate cables utilizing proper shielding techniques.
  • Must be able to read/understand technical diagrams and drawings and be knowledgeable about the local codes and regulations, as well as National Electrical Code requirements.
  • Must also be physically capable of bending for long periods of time, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, lift 35 lbs., and be willing to work all shifts and overtime.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Lockout/Tagout program and familiarization with Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) or equivalent systems is preferred. Journeyman or Master License is preferred.
  • Good communication skills, detail-oriented, able to work with a team, and have good problem-solving skills.
  • IPC Soldering Certification is preferred.


U.S. Citizenship required. Two (2) years of college with courses in engineering, mathematics, or science, and four (4) years relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of relevant education/experience for a total of six (6) years.

Work Environment

Office environment. (10%).

Test/Industrial Environment - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, and industrial facilities. (85%)

Travel between facilities and test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment and chemical operations. (5%)

Physical Requirements

Must have sufficient mobility to enter confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required. (50%)

Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like. (20%)

Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.

Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs. (30%)

Other Essential Functions

U.S. Citizenship required.

A valid driver’s license is required.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required.

Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.

Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.

Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client.

Employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.
