Engineering Technician I (Intern)

Responsibilities:

  • Build ground and flight test articles and instrumentation according to build documentation provided by lab engineering.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous chemicals.
  • Use of small manual tools (i.e. screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.).
  • Use of powered hand tools (i.e. drills, Dremels, etc.)
  • It is not expect that the student use large power tools (i.e. bandsaws, disk sanders, etc.)
  • Use of handheld test equipment like multimeters, pressure transducers, DAQs, etc...
  • Scanning and filing of documentation.
  • Carrying and picking up materials between buildings.


Environment:

  • You will be working in labs that develop and produce heat shield materials as well as design and implement heat shield instrumentation within material test articles.
  • These labs are currently supporting NASA’s missions to Mars and the Moon.


Education, Training, & Experience Required:

  • The minimum educational requirement for this position is that the student is attending high school.
  • Training will be provided on the use of small hand tools, instrumentation, and lab safety practices.


Personal Skills Desired:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
