Geochemist to join the team!
As anMC-ICPMS
Geochemist you will:
- Analyze astromaterial samples and analogs.
- Develop analytical techniques for stable isotopes on the MC-ICP-MS, including collision cell applications
- Utilize contamination minimization and clean techniques.
- Contribute to the practice and further development of ion-chromatography methods in a clean lab
- Provide general support for isotope lab users including the procurement and inventory of supplies and laboratory equipment.
- Validate, summarize and communicate quantitative results.
- Meticulously document procedures and results and actively participate in safety programs.
- Work with in-house as well as visiting researchers on all aspects of experimentation and analysis.
- Actively pursue collaborations and development of projects within and outside the department.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requisition Qualifications:This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.
- A BS degree and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience are typically required
- Must have experience of stable isotope analysis by MC-ICPMS
- Experience working in clean laboratory environment preparing samples as outlined in the job description above, conducting experiments, summarizing results, preparing reports for internal and external use, writing abstracts for submission to national and international meetings, and contributing to the preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience running and maintaining optimal performance of an MC-ICPMS system is required.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
- Good computer skills are essential.
Requisition Preferences: - BS degree from an accredited college or university in an associated technical discipline and four (4) years related experience, or MS degree in an associated technical discipline with two (2) years of related experience, or Ph.D. in an associated technical discipline
- A PhD degree and at least two years of relevant laboratory experience is highly preferred.
- Experience and desire to develop novel sample analysis procedures on the MC-ICPMS
- Familiarity with irreplaceable astromaterial samples is strongly preferred
- Experience with mineral separations and micro-sampling is a plus
- Experience with other isotopic measurement applications such as radiometric chronometry measurements and/or use of the TIMS
- The most competitive candidates will have demonstrated the ability to author scientific papers, are active members of the geochemistry and/or cosmochemistry science communities, and will also contribute broadly across research topics within the Science Department and ARES Research

Essential FunctionsWork EnvironmentGenerally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical RequirementsWork may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

AttendanceRegular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
