PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Amentum is currently seeking a Hazardous Waste Manager for the Hazardous Materials Minimization Center (HMMC) Okinawa, under the United States Marine Corp (USMC) contract. HMMC provides hazardous material and hazardous waste support services to the US Marines Corps and tenant customers located on Okinawa.

The Hazardous Waste Manager supervises the handling, containerizing, and dispositioning of hazardous material and waste in accordance with prescribed procedures under the Japanese Environmental Governing Standards (JEGS) and will oversee the transport hazardous materials and waste containers to and from designated locations.

This position has a rotating shift and will be subject to shift changes, weekend, holiday and overtime work.  Shift work, weekends, mandatory overtime (with proper notice given) and cross-training can be required in order to meet daily/weekly workload requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Manage and supervise the performance of employees and all processes associated with Hazardous Waste (HW) handling, which includes receiving HW at collection points, inspections, containerization, packaging, preparation of documentation, and coordination with HW disposal activities and local Environmental offices.
  • Maintain accuracy of HW log; verify HW containers are in documented locations or corrective action taken.
  • Manage and maintain HW in storage to ensure proper container markings and labeling, and container details are accurate.
  • Create Hazardous Waste Profile Sheets, prepares HW containers for disposition, updates HMMS with container status changes, reviews HW documents and signs.
  • Identify HW requiring laboratory testing to determine substance.
  • Prepare and disseminate weekly report of all HW activity, to include quantity picked up, weight, HW containers processed, etc.

  

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

1. Must be a United States citizen or Permanent Legal Resident.

2. Two years’ experience working in a hazardous waste operation.

3. Bachelor's degree or 5 years of related experience, combination of education and experience, with post high school training in hazardous materials and hazardous waste handling and safety procedures.

4. Working knowledge of hazardous waste and/or material handling techniques, applicable local, state, and federal regulations and federal supply procedures.

5. Must be able to accurately input, correct, and/or retrieve data from various databases.

6. Must complete training mandated by the company within 30 days of start date. Valid driver’s license or can obtain one within 30 days of start date.

7. Must have excellent customer service skills.

8. Ability to research and resolve problems with minimal information provided.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Two (2) years of supervisory experience.

2. Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certified.

3. Overseas Hazardous Waste Facility Operations (OFACOPS) certified. Hazardous Material Management System (HMMS) experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

 

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
