About the Opportunity

Energy Programmes is one of the newest Business Units and has been formed with the vision to support positive change and help shape the future of Nuclear Power.

Operational throughout the UK and across continental Europe, we are seeking to expand our team on a variety of nuclear projects, which range in technologies and that find themselves at different stages of their development. To do this, we are seeking to continuously employ talented individuals to join our diverse team that are excited about nuclear projects and are committed to Net Zero, and Energy Security.

In both client facing and internal roles we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. We are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.

Amentum are recruiting for a Head of Design Contracts - Engineering and Technical to ensure projects meet budget and programme requirements, in this role you'll contribute to the development and implementation of the organisation, operating model and project strategy. You'll manage a team of up to 20 project management professionals and also provide project delivery guidance to the multi-disciplinary technical team as needed to achieve objectives, leading by example and setting the standard for the team to follow. key responsibilities will be:

  • Responsible for the leadership and management of the project managers, enabling and supporting staff engagement, development and performance.
  • Successful delivery of the Design Supply Contracts to Budget and Schedule requirements, by providing robust commercial leadership and governance.
  • Comprehensive view of Project Management across delivery functions, ensuring alignment with strategic project objectives and adherence to project management processes.
  • Engagement with the Head of Civil Programme Engineering and other senior stakeholders to ensure budget, schedule and technical needs are aligned to facilitate on-time design delivery.
  • Lead engagement with Commercial teams to support procurement of Design Supply Contracts.
  • Effective management of Design Supply Chain Contracts following Signature of Contract including the use of CEMAR for managing early warnings and variations.
  • Ensuring project teams are resourced with functional support to deliver their project commitments and are coordinated and aligned with design delivery programme and milestones.
  • Ensure that teams provide appropriate input to the Risk Management process and complete technical reviews and surveillance activities in accordance with governance requirements.
  • Lead engagement with Information Management and PMO functions to ensure that appropriate data and information management systems and processes are in place to facilitate effective delivery and reporting of the Design Supply Contracts.


Here's What You'll Need

  • Experience of successfully leading large teams in major infrastructure projects.
  • Degree and Chartered status in Project management, Construction, Civil engineering, or other relevant discipline.
  • Excellent understanding of project management approaches and processes, and proven success in managing and driving teams to meet deadlines.
  • Track record of leading delivery of major infrastructure projects within a complex and dynamic environment, particularly in managing interfaces between scope areas.
  • Proven experience of maintaining high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility.
  • Track record of successful delivery to budget and programme constraints, with effective cost control and management of change control processes.
  • Experience of successfully managing groups of internal and external stakeholders, with both technical and commercial interests.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks at all levels.
  • Track record of successful delivery within a Design & Build contract is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with NEC suite of contracts.
