CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:

The Janitor position is responsible for the cleanliness of communal space, restrooms, workspaces, and outside areas as assigned

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain the cleanliness of the communal spaces, restrooms, workspaces, and outside areas as assigned.
• Sweep, dust, scrub, strip floors, wax, buff, clean windows, and empty trash cans as assigned.
• In-depth cleaning of restrooms, including but not limited to urinals, commodes, walls, mirrors, sinks, floors, etc.
• Moves and/or relocates furniture.
• Maintains records and inventory of cleaning supplies and prepares lists of supplies to be purchased.
• Uses cleaning equipment including electric floor buffers, mops, large wringers, and other necessary equipment, tools, chemicals, and supplies.
• Issues / distributes hand soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
• Performs other related duties as directed.
• Present a courteous and professional demeanor when dealing with customers.
• Complies with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, and Tool Control Programs.
• Complies with all established general and industrial Safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
• Assists as directed to ensure the Safety, security, and preservation of government/company-owned equipment.

CLASSIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE:

Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate the English language and follow verbal and written instruction. Must have a working knowledge of applicable industrial maintenance equipment, cleaning chemicals and supplies.

EDUCATION /LICENSES:

Graduation from high school or GED required. Must be able to meet any Government / Company licensing / qualification requirements for the position.

EXPERIENCE:

Must have general experience in the janitorial profession and use of a high-speed floor buffer.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

High speed floor buffer.  

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Climbing, standing stooping, bending stretching, and working in uncomfortable positions. Required to lift up to 70 lbs. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Must have close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Requires hearing to normal range.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The diversity of working conditions may range from standard shop type environment where there may be no physical discomfort to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in high noise hazards area. Required to handle hazardous materials. Required to wear protective clothing and Personal Protective Equipment.

POTENTIAL HAZARDS: 

Exposure to prolonged periods of walking and standing. Possible exposure to hazardous material identified on the Safety Data Sheets. Possible exposure to electrical shock.

WORK LOCATION: 

Office spaces, maintenance shop spaces, hangars, and outside areas.
