We are currently seeking a Linux System Administrator to support an IT Managed Services program in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The overall program includes a 500+ work force performing Enterprise IT support, Service Desk, and Telecommunications support across multiple facilities and locations, for classified and unclassified telecommunications and information technology (IT) systems.

On any given day, you will be called on to:

  • Networking: Configure, monitoring, and troubleshooting network devices and services, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • User Support: Provide technical support to users, resolving issues related to system access, performance, and connectivity.
  • Security Compliance: Implement and maintain security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulations.
  • Backup and Recovery: Develop and manage backup and recovery procedures to safeguard critical data and ensure business continuity.
  • Hardware Support: Assist in racking and stacking new equipment, ensuring proper installation and configuration of hardware components.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other IT team members and departments to support project and initiatives that require system and network expertise.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor system performance and network traffic, generating reports and making recommendations for improvements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelors degree and 2 years of experience OR an Associates degree and 5 years of experience OR equivalent.
  • Related experience can be substituted for relevant education and vice versa.
  • Must have an Active DOE Q clearance

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of fundamental networking and distributed computing concepts, as well as security engineering, application security, and system security principles.
  • Proficiency in Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu) and networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical users.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation tasks.
  • Knowledge if security best practices and compliance standards.
  • Ability to travel and represent SNL during vendor Executive and Technical Briefing conferences.
  • Ability to work beyond normal business hours when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor internal and external staff as needed.
