Local courier duties include ensuring safe and secure transport of documents and/or materials; entering information and processing accountings into various databases; and completing other miscellaneous job related duties.
Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities
- Processes documents and/or materials and readies them for distribution
- Receives and sorts materials according to correct office/organization for daily delivery.
- Packages and properly marks materials prior to transport and delivery.
- Ensures safe and secure transport of documents/materials within Sponsor-related facilities and other Government Agencies within the WMA.
- Distributes materials, collecting authorized signatures from the addressees upon delivery.
- Organizes the daily run to ensure expeditious, efficient and timely deliveries, anticipating and planning for alternative routes as a back-up.
- Ensures safety procedures are being followed.
- Completes entries into and monitors a tracking database for daily activities
- Scans all material into the document control system to ensure accountability.
- Scans signed receipts upon return to ensure accountability transfer and delivery verification.
- May serve as the customer service representative and assist in the resolution of customer problems and issues; i.e., delays or inability to affect deliveries, depending on area of assignment
- Maintains contact with recipienUcustomer regarding status of problem and estimated time of resolution.
- Escalates problems to management as appropriate.
- May coordinate daily activities of couriers, depending on area of assignment.
- Receives requests for deliveries via phone calls, electronic mail, or in-person requests.
- Prepares courier schedules to include date, time, type of delivery and destination.
- Communicates with couriers regarding status of deliveries and any changes to routes.
- Modifies schedules as new requests for courier services are received; updates list of cleared individuals within the Intelligence Community (IC} authorized to receive classified material
- Assists the government in ensuring a balanced distribution of workload among couriers, maintaining the duty list of contractor personnel on call and monitoring the hours worked.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to obtain knowledge of Sponsor regulations, policies, and unique Sponsor authorities.
- Ability to exercise diplomacy, maturity and good judgment while interacting with security guards, U.S. Capitol Police and other government officials to address entry and other issues.
- Ability to follow correct delivery procedures for each authorized location and addressee.
- Extensive knowledge of security protocol and cover.
- Extensive knowledge of the WMA and surrounding routes.
- Well-developed customer service skills, demonstrated by anticipating and responding to customers' needs in a manner that generates customer satisfaction.
- Excellent driving skills and a good driving record.
- Good interpersonal and oral communications skills, demonstrated by developing working relationships and networks with contractor personnel and Sponsor staff.
- Ability to effectively handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to identify problems, unforeseen delays and issues, and to provide resolution.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to train other contractors.
Work Environment
Work is primarily sedentary and is performed in a mailroom/office environment or in a vehicle. Typically contractor personnel will be driving, walking, bending, and carrying of papers and books, and extensive periods requiring the use of computer terminals to accomplish work objectives. Work includes light physical requirements such as lifting and the operation of mechanical equipment and motor vehicles, usually while transporting materials.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
- One year (1) experience as a courier desired.
- Maintain a clean driving record.
Clean driving record definition: Sponsor's professional drivers must meet the following criteria, at a minimum, before operating Agency controlled vehicles:
- Negative point accumulation is not to exceed minus four (-4) points.
- Zero (0) driving suspensions or revocations.
- Zero (0) incidents of serious motor vehicle violation, including, but not limited, to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; reckless driving; leaving the scene of an accident, or a series of convictions that reflect a pattern of unsafe behavior.
- Has not been assigned to any alcohol safety action program or driver alcohol rehabilitation program.
- Has not been assigned to any driver improvement programs.
Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Special Certifications:
- Qualify for and possess a valid driver's license
